Preface St. Joseph Syrah 2021

Very different St Joseph. Tons of brambly dark fruit. Nice acid and tension on the finish. But oddly lacking in tannin and structure. Savory and I appreciate the 13% abv but I think it’s missing a dimension given the price point. — a month ago

Well, it’s just the Preface after all.

This was really nice. Surprised as it’s a Shiraz. — 2 days ago

Chateau St. Jean

Cinq Cépages Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

1995 vintage. Decanted and tasted after two hours. Used a Durand and cork in really good shape. Mix of chunky and powdery sed. Light-medium body. Shed nearly the entirety of the cloaked and oaked juice. Earth. Dust. Minerals. A harmonious leanness to the entire adventure. Can easily hold in this place for a half-decade. 5.24.24. — a month ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

In a nice place at shade under 10 years. Popped and poured and was surprisingly ready to go, though 30 mins in the glass helped for sure. Nice mouthfeel and density. Tannins are there but very well integrated. Good dark berry fruit and some pepper on the long finish. Delicious with steak and a pork chop at The Grill. — 3 months ago

Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes Nuits St. Georges Pinot Noir 2010

Really impressive on opening. Tastes like a Pinot noir should. Cherries, rose, a bit of fern like hiking in CA redwood grove, there’s some strawberry, some dust, plum skin. Interestingly the aftertaste, maybe 20 seconds later suddenly has a sweetness to it that I really enjoy. Drinking really well now on opening. Grateful to try this. — 2 days ago

Circa J.L. Chave Sélection Saint-Joseph Roussanne 2018

This is still very pretty, lots of nice texture, nuance, impeccable balance. Confectionary, fennel seed and floral nose, mineral, tangy, licorice root palate. Still some freshness but it may be time to drink up. What a steal this was. — 2 months ago
