Beautiful nose of black currants, black plums, blackberries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, spices, light vanilla, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

Full bodied and soft with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, cedar, toast, spices, light vanilla, dark chocolates, licorice, peppercorn and coffee.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and extracted, fruit forward and elegant. Complex, well balanced and entertaining. A beautiful wine.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is starting to drink at its peak now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Has good potential to become a 96 point wine.

Good right out of the bottle and better after 90 minutes of airtime.

Grapes were aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months. A small production of only 2,700 bottles.

I usually don’t bother to report on the cork, but the cork in this bottle was stained a deep purple – almost black. I sniffed it and the intensity of its bouquet told me that this wine would be luscious. Herbal (sage & oregano) with a hint of rich umami solidity (almost like bacon). All from a cork! In a glass, the nose is less intense. Oregano and sage dominate. The “meatiness” of cork scent fades way back. Fruit forward without being syrupy — black cherries. Medium tannic structure, with hints of dark chocolate at the lower end of the spectrum balanced by a pleasing earthy minerality in the high notes. Unfortunately, the finish fades quickly. If this wine had a long finished, I’d probably give it at 9.8, but as it is a 9.5 will have to suffice. — 3 months ago

Montevertine's Pian del Ciampolo blend is 90% Sangiovese, rest with equal amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino, deep Ruby with purple hues, aromas of red fruits, floral, herbs and smoky oak. On the palate flavors of cherry and currants with dried herb notes, cacao and tobacco notes. Fine ripe sweet tannins, long finish ending with fruit and an earthy herb spice character. For a red lover, and not a fan of Chards, this wine knocked me off my feet! I absolutely Loved it! If I could describe my perfect request for a white wine, it would be this one. Butterscotch, almond, a slight fruity hint of lemon zest but not sharp or tart, buttery and bright yet incredibly smooth and a nice heavy feel. This is my favorite white wine ever!
