Lenton Brae

Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

See previous notes from the 2008 and 2009 vintages. Initial toasty oak notes - a surprise after 14 years but still good. Not the usual Margaret River herbaceousness. 2011 was a disastrous vintage throughout Australia with the exception of the extremities - Margaret River and the Hunter Valley. An easy to drink Wilyabrup Cabernet - punches above its purchase price of $55. — 8 days ago

Moss Wood

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

My 11th bottle of an original dozen bought on release. Still going strong after 26 years. Colour of mid crimson with a tawny rim. When decanted the wine threw a lot of sediment. Herbaceous with red fruits - hint of red currants. Palate is mid weight - sweet and savoury at once, finishing with smooth resolved tannins. I will leave the last one for another 1 or 2 years / say early 2027. — 2 months ago

Vasse Felix

Margaret River Chardonnay 2017

This is the 2nd rated Vasse Felix Chardonnay behind the world class Heytesbury and ahead of the amazing value Filius. This was my last 2017 having made no notes for the first two. Expresses everything which is great about Margaret River Chardonnay. Complexity without cost. Ripe grapefruit with a balanced creamy French oak note which is largely integrated at 7 years of age. More citrus than stone fruit - a little nectarine? Great QPR at $31 AUD. — 5 months ago

@Bob McDonald, I wish I could find this and the Heytesbury here on the U.S. West Coast — Vasse Felix really does great stuff at such low price points!!

Leeuwin Estate

Art Series Margaret River Shiraz 2020

Nicely aromatic & restrained (for Australia) with purity of dark fruit (blackberries, plums, mulberry), nice depth and excellent tannins quality - juicy, polished, finely grained.
Very elegant & with beautiful balance between the ripeness & savoury notes.
A really lovely wine!

Diana Madeline Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

Deep ruby colour with aromatic notes on nose with berry flavours with hints of chassis and tobacco on palate well balanced although still some acidity as under screw cap but sure to develop and mellow further.
An excellent example of Margaret River Bordeaux blending.

Filius Margaret River Chardonnay 2020

Somewhat lush and fat up front, plenty of acidity to balance, more depth and complexity than the Xanadu, medium-long finish. — 5 months ago

Great value.

St Innocent Winery

Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 1999

Redfruits, still quite youthful, some tannins as well, lacks just a bit of charm for a Pinot, but also perhaps why it’s so youthful, medium-long finish, very good Oregon Pinot!! — 2 months ago

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2020

Elegant and still a little closed - it needed an hour to reveal its considerable depth of lemon, apple, flint, wet stone, friend lemon zest, candle wax. It’s just beginning to show hints of honey and hazelnut. Brilliant fresh acidity and long finish — 2 months ago

In double-blind tastings, I commonly call these as high quality white Burgundy, typically Chassagne-Montrachet. So good.

Frankland Estate

Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling 2014

Citrus blossom, white flowers, and talc as aromatics. On the palate, citrus, citric acid with a chalky texture. Very little TDN if any. A classic Australian dry Riesling still with a long life to develop tertiary characteristics. The following night a skerrick of peach becoming apparent on the palate. Most enjoyable. The Great southland a reliable terroir for Riesling. — 5 months ago
