Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Slightly deeper ruby with a little narrower , less garnet rim . This is quite deep and slightly more herbal on the nose, floral perhaps , a little more austere. Spicy Cassis , tobacco , herbal touches . On the palate this is slightly more velvety with a riper dark fruits , mixed with a touch of dark cherry , spice and subtler , riper tannin . Quite ripe , more polished tannin. A bit bigger and riper in style , alcohol a bit more noticeable . Quite good dark cherry , dark chocolate, cassis finish . This is a little more polished , but probably needs a little more time , better in 5 years and will last well a further 10 . Overall a good showing , a classy , polished performance — 11 days ago

Azienda Agricola Fontodi

Flaccianello della Pieve Colli Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 2013

Close to perfect. Very fine tannins for a medium bodied wine. Lots of black fruit, tar and leather. Drinking beautifully now but will be a stunner 5 to 10 years from now. — 15 days ago

Martin Woods

Koosah Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Pretty flippin’ serious wine. Rich (for a wine that was probably picked around 20 brix) but not enough for it to be cloying or heavy. Flavors are not particularly fruity; some hazelnut and lemon oil that will probably go to that fermenty hay character with some bottle age. There’s some noticeable tannin too, some of which I think is wood-derived but it gives the wine grip. The weight (alcohol x ph x acid) is perfect. White burgundy was my favorite wine in the world and I’m spending my dollars and cellar space on OR Chardonnay because you’d spend a lot of money to get something this good from Burgundy. — 17 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Guidalberto Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2022

Pop and pour WOW. Old world dried flowers on the nose. Elegant on the palate with balance of acidity and soft tannins - that linger on the front and middle of the tongue. More layers of flavors than I can describe with roses, mixed berries, clove, leather, tobacco, etc., and none were dominant. What a pleasant surprise. — 12 days ago

Gratavinum

2 Pi R Priorat Red Blend 2021

Darker fruits, raspberries, vanilla, fig, dry minerals and gentle tannins. Quite nice. Organic. Priorat is always good in the dead of winter. — 14 days ago

I actually don’t know Priorat so well, but I love the region and this one hits the mark! Will look out for the GV5

Emrich-Schönleber

Halenberg GG Riesling 2021

This feels a step behind the 2020 but is an excellent reminder of the value presented by great dry riesling. This wine is hard to find and rightly so….its a massive and ripe Riesling in a full body style. This wine to me was teetering the on the edge of over ripeness, but nonetheless had wonderful tropical and honeyed fruits. The typical minerality was present, but that took a back seat. My only critique is that it lacked a little focus and some of the linearity I’ve experienced with other vintages from this producer. Much much better on day 2 - this has a long life ahead. Equal to or greater in drinking experience than white burgundy 2-3x the price (albeit a different experience) — 17 days ago

Donnafugata

Anthìlia Sicilia Catarratto 2022

This feels like a wine secret. What a qpr. From fruit to acidity to weight. This wine covers it all. At $20. Could drink this every night. — 13 days ago

This wine flies under the radar. It’s built for food.
You can’t beat the price.

Cantina Terlan

Vorberg Riserva Terlano Pinot Bianco 2021

This 2021 is as clean, pure and focused as a white can get. Lively, full flavored, stony with lingering complexity. Went well with a hoisin sauce pork stir fry — 16 days ago
