Château Clauzet

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Beautiful nose of black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, light toast, Mediterranean spices, wet leaves, chocolates, tobacco leaf, earth, herbs and forest floor.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, blueberries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper, light vegetables, black tea and pencil lead.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This 21 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Saint Estephe is drinking beautifully now.

Still showing enough fruits with lots of chocolate and earth notes. Elegant and rich. Subdued, but interesting.

What are great surprise. I did not think this would drink so nicely at this point.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 20 minutes of airtime, when tannins show up.

Showing good structure and balance. Complex on the palate and the nose.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired very nicely with French cheeses.

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

13% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

Tenuta di Capraia

Gran Selezione Effe 55 Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2018

100% Sangiovese. Medium ruby color. Intense aromas of black cherry/currant, graphite and violets. Same fruits on the palate with notes of forest floor, bittersweet chocolate and dried bay leaves. Nice mineral/herbal note on the finish. Dense structure and vibrant acidity. Powerful and complex, but very well balanced. Very “Bordeaux-like.” Tailor-made for the American palate. Thanks for the bottle, Kase! — 10 months ago

Margaux Merlot Blend 2018

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

This Second Growth Margaux is delicious. Nicely balanced and elegant. Fruit forward and complex. Rich, but not extracted.

This 7 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based blend is starting to drink beautifully right now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 20 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years. Has good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Loved the complexity on the nose.

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

@David T Agreed. I would like to see other Spanish districts like Rioja and Galicia. Also into Portugal.

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2015 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is the first vintage vinified with 100% infusion, including 55% whole bunches. This has a much more intense bouquet compared to the 2014: copious blackberries, blueberry and crushed violet scents, hints of blood orange and a light cassis touch with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine density and precision, good grip, edgy tannins with clearly more mineralité percolating through the finish. Excellent. Tasted at the Les Carmes Haut-Brion vertical at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2022)
