1995 Bussia Barolo.
Still holding a deep red core with a bit of fading at the rim…impressive.
Dried Bing cherries, dried roses and flowers on the nose.
Dried red fruit, cherries and plums with mint and mushrooms.
Tannins are disappearing but the acidity is still so smooth.
A friend foraged for local Matsutake mushrooms and we made risotto with black summer truffles. — 2 days ago
Quite light ruby , wide garnet , terracotta rim . Fruit forward , with red cherry , strawberry , rose , pomegranate with sweet spices , anis . On the palate lovely sweet cherry , strawberry , light red fruits , crunchy with quite fresh acidity . Polished and sweet , but very present tannins , this is still very young. Saline and sweet spice tinged finish , good length. This is drinking well, however is still very fruit driven and just improved throughout the evening . From now but will improve over the next 5-10 years and last well a further 10, especially in magnum. — a month ago
Quite light garnet , wide terracotta rim , more delicate and lighter than expected . High toned sweet , confected spiced strawberry nose, with a slightly smoky hint. On the palate sweet red strawberry , raspberry and red cherry notes , touches of spice and anis , but elegant and silky in texture , with very fine , rounded tannins and fresh acidity . This has good length , detailed and precise finish with anis , fruit pastels and almost chalky hints . Elegant and refined. Very distinctive, really quite unique in style , but very well made and enjoyable at the moment . Drink from now for the next 5-10 years. — 21 days ago
More than a 1000 review of this wine, I feel like I'm coming late to the party 😅
The nose felt a bit oxydized at first but it blew up after a while. Then came red cherry, wet forest soil, mushrooms, soy sauce, black tea, almond... Wow the complexity of that nose... The palate is marked by a great acid drive, some fruit, with cherry notes, some tea touches, a good width with some matter and almost a meaty thing, some rather harsh and drying tannins (as one could expect) before a long, very long, meaty, juicy, tannic finish that goes on and on and on. A bit more textual and meaty than I expected, a good experience of a cru barolo that I'd like to revisit in other vintages. — 21 days ago

The Albe always has a reputation for being a well valued Barolo and with this example I have to agree. I do think the 5 years have helped. Pretty classic Nebbiolo perfumed nose. Dried flowers and nice fruit. Some leather. On the less intense side, nice lifting acid on the finish. — 4 days ago
