Had three bottles since 2010 or so. This is my first.

Nice, elegant but lacks what I hoped in Brunello’s I’ve had from this vintage and previous Brunello’s I’ve enjoyed.

It needed the bolognese. As the night & the meal progressed, it showed me its better self. It was short/less even w/ a hour decant. — 7 days ago

Nose - Plum, candied orange, peat moss and wood. Mouthfeel - Velvety smooth up front, ending in a subtle pleasant astringency. Main flavors - Stone fruit and earth with a delicate acidic ending with a touch of dryness, like you get when you lick the pit of a nectarine, peach or plum. Overall - a gorgeously complex and lovely Pinot!! 1 million out of 10! — 2 months ago

Magnificent, deeply traditional Barolo. The nose opens with burning embers, campfire, road tar, dried roses and a huge range of savory exotic spice, then grows more loamy with air, bringing in wood shavings, old library books and classic Nebbiolo earthiness. The palate is dazzlingly concentrated but beautifully controlled, with exquisite red fruit, layers of cherry, superb linearity and wonderfully articulated tannins. Dense without heaviness, elegant despite the power, and architecturally complete. The finish is extraordinarily long and saturated with fruit, tannin and mineral detail. Already a superb Barolo, with obvious 9.7 upside as it continues to open.

After an hour and a half, this has gone to another level. The nose is now wildly floral and almost four-dimensional, with extraordinary depth and perfume, easily 9.7 to 9.8 aromatically. The palate has become even more beautiful, juicy and seamless, with velvety, sweet tannins and incredible tiny-berry fruit intensity. The structure is still serious, but everything is now more integrated and complete. 9.6 to 9.7. — 4 days ago

Unnecessarily heavy bottle. Nose is quite vinous, showing bright winey berries and cherry licorice candy, along with a whiff of almond paste. The palate is vigorous but bright and fresh, with nice depth. Tangy acids and a little metallic/mineral note in the slightly bitterish finish. It’s got the “cleansing” character that pairs well with casual, tomato-saucy Italian dishes. I could be wrong but I’m guessing that this has no slightly dried grapes in it nor was any appasimento technique used. Just fresh ripe grapes. — 3 months ago
