Begnins, La Côte

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Meursault Chardonnay 2004

Served blind. I nailed the vintage, even a broken clock is right twice a day. A spectacular nose of smoke, flowers and a dose of reduction. In the mouth, intensity and freshness . Minerals & green fruit that reminded me of Chablis to start but no way given the weightlessness. Waves of crisp fruit with exceptional balance. Most producers would be happy to make a premiere cru or grand cru of this quality. It might be an overused descriptor or cliché, but this was all about pureness. According to my friend purchased on release, and locked away. A reminder of how important proper storage is. — 15 days ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1989

Gorgeous clarity. This is a great bottle. Clear and intense. Softened at the edges. Delicate lemon and stone. In really good shape and kinda haunting — 12 days ago

The twin titans 85 and 86 are still holding up. What a great deal this used to be.

Crystalline in the glass. Pure presentation of citrus fruits and moderate sweetness, with lots of detail on the mid-palate. A beauty which will cellar for many years to come. — 5 days ago

Slow over for two hours then 30 minutes in the fridge then one hour in the decanter and served for dinner. Got more elegant as time passed. Classic Musigny — 4 days ago

So much going on this, but most notable is the pronounced savory cola note on the mid plate, maybe more time will subdue it and elevate it. Great wine balanced and earthy. — 7 days ago

'S' Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Brut Chardonnay 2004

Pale straw lemon color with frothy mousse and lively bead of bubbles, produced only in exceptional vintages, grapes from grand cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. A complex nose of fresh fruit with yeast, nutty notes and floral scents. On the palate flavors of peach, berry and citrus flavors, floral with biscuit tones. Great balance with acidity, delicate textures, long finish ending creamy with toasty smoky oak and chalky mineral character. Very Nice! Tasting Sample! — 10 days ago
