Flight 2 , wine 2 . This was again quite deep with a slightly marked terracotta rim . Quite closed and difficult to read at first , touch of coffee and herbal hints , some sous bois . This needed time to unfurl a bit and showed well over all . On the palate this had dark fruits and a mineral , grafite , tobacco edge , quite elegant and still showing well . Slightly dry compact tannins , but good balance and length . I had this down as the Talbot 82 … but alas I was wrong again .. at least got the vintage . — 10 days ago

Deep ruby , thin pink rim . Fresh cassis , blackberry , quite spicy with a touch of vanilla, red plum . Quite open and enticing . On the palate this is somewhat linear with cool dark fruits , cassis , red plum , grafite and saline touch . Fills out well with quite grippy , cool tannins , fresh acidity , and good length with grafite , cassis finish . This is obviously not ready , however it was an enjoyable wine to drink over dinner , the freshness and cool fruit character are quite apparent , and the tannins though gritty are somewhat in the background . Though it was worth the experience , I would leave bottles a further 10 years before trying another. This is an elegant and well judged wine . — 19 hours ago

1hr+ decant. Nice red color with maroon edges. Classic Bordeaux nose with flowers, cedar, and cherries. Similar on the palate with a lovely texture. Not super deep, but solid finish. — 2 days ago

It's Open That Bottle Night(last Sat in Feb), and thought this would be a nice pull to celebrate the occasion.

1 hour decant(decent sediment). A striking still dark garnet with some bricking. On the nose: perfumed stewed cherry/plum, smoked meat, worn leather, cigar ash,milk chocolate, rich soil, some band-aid(brett) Taste: smooth, polished, vibrant wine with plum, tobacco, bitter chocolate, worn leather, earth, and a long graphite coffee ground finish. No formal notes . Pretty deep Amber , copper colour . Intense marmalade , saffron , creme caramel . Rich on the palate with rich marmalade , saffron notes . Good acidity , but rich. Good length . This is drinkable now and shows quite an advanced colour , though due to its richness will probably carry on delivering for another 20 years , perhaps longer .

This was a rather fascinating evening put together by our incredibly generous host. All 2007 reds were served blind in two flights: 1st Mouton, Haut Brion, Cheval Blanc , La Mission Haut Brion then Latour , Lafite , Petrus and Margaux . Overall the wines showed well , and were mostly enjoyable to drink now , though there is no rush . This somewhat maligned vintage can give a lot of enjoyment in the right environment, I certainly wouldn’t hold back from opening or purchasing any of these wines . They mostly show good density of fruit , personality and elegance , with good freshness. These are not powerful wines , and at times perhaps the fruit can be a little cooler or greener but I was pleasantly surprised by the way they performed , just goes to show you should never write off a vintage without trying the wines ! — a month ago

1996 vintage. Really nice specimen. Opened (not decanted) and tasted after two hours. Unified earthy, funky, lived in BDX nose paired with medium body. Surprisingly, still a splash of baby fat evident on the cheeks along with a blue fruit accent. Ripe plum, cassis and leather followed. Drinking great currently with extensive follow-through on the finish and should hold as such till 2030. 02.28.25. — 3 days ago

Holy wow! This wine was a unique and memorable experience. It was zinging out from the first glass over the next few hours it only deepened and became more substantial. Very ripe fruit but not aged.
