Medium ruby in color; violets, blackberries, and bellpepper on the nose; medium plus acidity; high tannins; tastes like plums, berries, tabacco, and ash with a long finish. — 3 months ago
I sold Barolos and Barbarescos from this winery with the first importer I worked for back in the early 80s. It’s been in the decanter about an hour, and though the lightish color shows maturity, some fruit is emerging g to join with the intense mahogany furniture/old library scents. Incense too, along with faded rose petals. Very classic. In the mouth, it’s powerful and somewhat austere. Not a fruity wine. Still a fair amount of tannin present. The austerity and power will pair nicely with the braised oxtails (coda alla vaccinara) that are almost ready. — 25 days ago
Definitely needed to let this wine breathe. First sips were shockingly acidic but it really smoothed out after an hour. Nose is very earthy, it smells like a garden with raspberry, mint, and maybe a skunk that sprayed in the distance. Very dry, nicely balanced. Leather and blackberry predominate. Went well with pasta and meatballs of course. Would love to have again. — 3 months ago
Nose: closed. As it opens wild mint and menthol. Elegant herbals.
Palate: lovely pink roses. Sweet cherries. Elegant. Lean. Geeky. Juicy. Menthol. — 2 months ago

Really enjoyed this Monvigliero showing red cherry, strawberry, rose petal & spice box. Youthful with silky tannins that needed some air — 2 days ago
