Good fruit intensity but a bit sunny, leaves out some of the potential nuance — 2 days ago
1970 | Cabernet Sauvignon
Beaulieu Vineyard; Georges de Latour Private Reserve
Napa Valley; California, USA
(95-97; Drink 2025-40+)
3h decant
Nose has ripe cherry, cedar++, charcoal, grilled black cherry, faint olive and over-ripe blackberry.
Palate has dried cherry/blackberry, tobacco, strawberry, vanilla, dried mint, leather with medium+ tannins and plenty of acidity to hold for decades.
Epic, even besting the 1968 & 1995 for my palate!

The 2014 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is a vintage I have not tasted for some time. Quite rustic on the nose, it offers red fruit, juniper berries, leather and forest floor scents that take time to cohere. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, austere like so many of the Côte de Nuits reds, and a slightly dry finish. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Love the vintage for the Domaine. Provides the perfect balance of freshness, acid and minerality, none of which overwhelming the pure, vivid, spiced fruit character, and as always, showing more Vosne than NSG which is just how I like it. Beautiful showing. Opened 5 hours ahead! — 17 days ago
