It’s always easy to be biased for a wine you had some small part in contributing to (I worked at the vineyard right before this harvest) but this is authentically excellent. Has aged extremely well. With a 1.5 hour decant and a slight chill, the classic dusty Rutherford fruit with very nice acid on the finish comes through in spades. Very long finish and quite in balance. Perfect pairing with some beautiful dry aged strip steaks to round out Thanksgiving weekend. — 8 months ago

Still so grab and lively on the palate. Stone fruit, orchard fruit, toasted almonds, and Danish butter cookies. Linear acidity with bright, zesty finish with pithy lemon notes and tart apple. I’m generally selective with Napa Chardonnay, often preferring leaner, mineral-driven styles. Chateau Montelena remains one of my rare exceptions. It captures the generosity of Napa’s sunshine while preserving freshness, finesse, and impeccable balance. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Clavoillon” pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of green apple, tropical fruit, stone fruit, lemon meringue, white flowers, nuts and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and slightly savory. Again, we were spared from premox; hallelujah! When Leflaive hits, it’s amongst the best in Burgundy. Drink now through 2035. — 4 months ago

I haven’t had a Bordeaux in a while. Especially, with a Ribcap. So, why not an 82? The vintage Robert Parker made his career as the only critic who called it correctly.

Very good 80’s Bordeaux were my first true wine love. Their style & 12-13% ABV will always be my cherished infatuation. Wished it had never changed.

Bought this Calon Segur on the secondary market several yrs ago. Tricky cork. Used my Durand. All good. Fill line perfect, no bottle neck tannin burn but plenty of velvety sediment.

If any of you ever wondered why there is a heart on the label. Here is the interesting reason…

It symbolizes the estate's deep-rooted history and the affection of its former owner, the Marquis de Ségur. Despite owning prestigious estates like Château Lafite and Château Latour, he famously declared, "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon." His sentiment is immortalized by the heart emblem on the label.

Opened it and let it breathe from the bottle for 45 minutes. Tasted it and decanting it in stages. Then, stopped 1/2 way through and poured the bottom half of the bottle from the bottle.

82 is such a grand, classic vintage. For the most part, I drink Calon Segur’s too early, even at 20 yrs of age. I don’t want to say it is a long in tooth as its neighbor, Montrose, but it is close. This 82 is drinking perfectly w/ 41 yrs in bottle and will hold another 5 yrs. Such soft, perfectly darkish spices with elegantly ripe fruits.

This 82 glides over the palate. There is only beautiful elegance, nothing bites back. The fruits are older (not old or past their prime), ripe fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, both plums but lean plum vs black, dark cherries, crazy, outstanding, hoovering raspberries with notes of blueberries & shades of freshly picked rhubarb. Some black cherry cola, anise to understated black licorice, dark chocolate pudding, caramel, layered, gentle baking spices-nutmeg, clove, cinnamon & vanillin, touch of sun tea, old leather, dryish to fresh tobacco w/ash, charcoal, elegant graphite, dry limestone powder, dry river pebbles, black, rich earth w/ dry leaves, magical, dark spices, grey volcanics, dry stems, just a hint of dry herbs, dry top soil, fresh & withering dark, red flowers, red roses, grand acidity with perfect; balance, tension, structure and a grand, gentle finish that goes on & on and eventually lands on an amazing soft buffet of earthiness.

This is a wine that is technically a 94, but w/ evolution & style a 97. Amazing bottle that you don’t want to end.

This bottling showed up at my Costco for $26.99. On experience, I thought it must be a pretty good burgundy value. Louis Latour a pretty good grower, producer & Negociant. So, I bought one. I was going to do a Premier Cru Chablis, but thought I’d try this tonight. 2023 also an amazing white burgundy vintage. And of course, to see if I wanted a few more.

This nose shows; sour green apple, golden apple, kiwi, lime, lemon, pineapple, white stone fruit, light orange citrus blend, honeysuckle, some dry herbs, vanilla, cream, caramel, dry twig/tree bark, beautiful chalkiness, limestone & volcanic powder, white & yellow lilies w/ greens.

The palate is round, viscous and waxy. Green apple, golden apple, kiwi, lime, lemon, pineapple, apricots, white stone fruit, light orange citrus blend, honeysuckle-comb, some dry herbs, vanilla, cream, caramel, butterscotch, touch of mint, graham crackers, dry twig/tree bark, beautiful chalkiness, dry limestone & volcanic powder, gentle white spice with almost a Meursault mineral & saline character, white & yellow lilies w/ greens, grand, round, rainfall acidity, well knitted, balance for days with an elegantly, smartly polished finish that lasts nearly two-minutes.

I believe the key to enjoying white burgundy is to let it warm to 55-61, not 46-48. Leave warmer climate, well wooded Chardonnay to the well chilled. Or, not well made Chardonnay…it cover up its flaws. Warmer temps bring out the flavor & beauty of good Chardonnay. — 21 days ago

This is being served colder than I would like and that said, the nose is not all that expressive. There is green apple, stone fruits, Meyer lemon to notes of lemon pledge, lime pulp, ripe, juicy pineapple, limestone marl, notes of marmalade, honeysuckle, light butterscotch, yellow lilies/flowers, white flowers.

The palate has a clean, round smooth entry. It is good but it tastes restrained to me. Maybe, the cool temp. Green apple, stone fruits-apricots, yellow peach/nectarine, Meyer lemon to a touch of lemon pledge, lime pulp, ripe, juicy pineapple, kiwi, green melon, notes of marmalade, honeysuckle, more pronounced butterscotch, caramel as it warms up, vanillin, gentle chalky powder, limestone marl, grey volcanic minerals, white spice, herbaceous hues, yellow lilies/flowers, white flowers with greens, nice round acidity, the finish is well balanced, round & elegant, a bit viscous and lasts about a minute.

I’ve had a number of producers from CC. I have had multiple vintages of LL’s CC and it simply doesn’t deliver like some of the other producers I’ve had that make white from CC. For me, it’s a nice wine but has often underwhelmed given the terroir.

I have had good vintages of white Bourgogne’s that show this nicely and better.
