I Am George

Enderle & Moll

Baden Pinot Noir 2013

Quite earthy. Light. Ten years later for this basic wine and it still does very well. Strawberries, rhubarb, stem influence, oregano… as it opens up give it many hours! Hint raspberry. Still a lot of tannis. Given that this is the basic wine for E&M and was 20$. This is unbelievably awesome 😎. What a wine - i fear this is my last bottle - a cellar find - i am totally disorganized hahaha 😆. — a month ago

San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir 2021

This just happens to be excellent. Very burgundy like. In fact blind this would be tough. Exuberant sour cherry and cherry. Incredible tannins. Unspitable! Hint pine. Lemon. Hint elderberry. I am a fan. With age this will be interesting to follow. Perhaps because of the extra fruit may be may be i would have guessed new world……????? On the expensive side 72$ at Birdrock Fine Wines. — 9 months ago

Muschelkalk Pinot Noir 2012

At first ultra angry! Brown tinge. Needs a 5 hour decant! Really I am not joking. Store 5 -10 more years. Marble dust, cigar box, aged cherries, still very tannic, tight, lime, orange zest. Needs more time. This could be incredible - wait. I will stash it away and revisit 2027. Of the four 2009 - 2012 the most difficult. — 3 years ago

Château Lilian Ladouys

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Blend of primarily Merlot (50%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (45%) supported by small amounts of Petite Verdot (4%) and Cabernet Franc (1%) blended in. Dark ruby color with slight hints of purple. Aromas of graphite, blackberry, anise and forest floor. Dark berry and plum fruit flavors along with hints of mushroom, minerals and baking spices. The finish is a little tight. Medium-plus body and quite concentrated. Tannins are present but not overwhelming. This wine is quite good right now but will improve with bottle age. Outstanding value! I am looking forward to revisiting this one. — 6 months ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

This was fantastic, strong, and yet still seemingly understated. Although I am no fortune teller, this seemed strong and young. I couldn’t place all the flavors I experienced, but to my palate there was raspberry, blackberry, smoked meats, soil after a rain, and portobello mushroom all matched with a beautiful color to stare at between sips. Long pauses to enjoy the long finish. — a year ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2008

I am not sure Dom is my jam. The overt amount of fruit and yeasty bread is a little too intense for me. — 6 months ago

Caillard

Mataro 2015

A bright ruby red. Black and blue fruits, Five spice and a tarry note. My last of 6 - and possibly the best. See my Delectable note in April 2022 for the first of 6. I am always in admiration of Andrew Caillard MW and his multiple talents when I look at this label which he painted. A beautiful expression of old vine Barossa Mataro (Mourvèdre). — 7 months ago

@Jan de Weerd Interesting Jan. I think that Mourvèdre vineyard of the Hewitsons is one of the oldest plantings of Mourvèdre in the world if not THE oldest in the world.

Thanks for sending that clip Jan. A fascinating story isn’t it. A special piece of vinous history and the wine is special.
