Pol Blanc

Cloudy Bay

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2025

A nice and easy drinking Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with mild complexity.

Fruit forward and nicely balanced.

Very typical for the region, which is nice to see.

Good right out of the bottle and good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A good party wine too.

13% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$35.

I find this to be an easy drinker and a good value. Fruit salad- plenty of peach, pineapple, apricots, lemon, and some grass. A hint of tar in the nose.

'S' Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Brut Chardonnay 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2015 pours a crystal clear, pale straw color with persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with bright green apple, star fruit, citrus tree blossom, lemon curd and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. This is a baby but there’s already a lot of material here. The texture is extraordinary. Expect a long life ahead. Drink now with maybe a short decant, through 2055. Third tranche. Disgorged September of 2025. — 4 days ago

An explosion of apricot flavor. Round and smooth, heavy weight, with sufficient but not overt acidity. A beautiful sweet wine. — a month ago

Wow. I liked this more than most. Hard alkaline open. Citrus. Dry. Then a little juicy fruit on the way out. — 2 months ago

Napa Valley Brut Blanc de Blancs 2022

Surprisingly ready nose, like fresh crust of a sourdough, with Buddha’s hand or star fruit dry citrus merged with some dry mineral freshness. There’s actually a hint of band aid in there as well, though not off putting. The bubbles dissipate relatively quickly, but the palate is long and lingering, with tons of acidity, some slight baking notes, and a nice dry, energetic finish that keeps the dry citrus at the forefront. — 18 days ago

Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2024

Aromas of citrus fruits, orchard fruit, flint/chalk and white flowers. Flavors of grapefruit, lemon, orange zest, fresh leafy herbs along with a distinct mineral/steely note. Long and very elegant finish. Bold and refreshing acidity. Well balanced, medium-minus body, and totally clean. Bright and electric! So delicious and a total crowd pleaser on a hot summer afternoon. Thanks to Kasey and Petey for opening this winner! — a month ago

Steak and frites? Why not!

The simplest restaurant manual I came across but one of the more memorable meals I’ve had.

Have not had a Pol Roger in a long time. Brioche, bruised apple, lemon zest, hint of ginger spice and chalk. Dry. Vibrant fine mousses. Not a bad pairing.

To close the evening we have an Yquem. Always a treat, never disappoints. The 2013 is still young with decades upon decades to go. The honey, the fruit, the endless flavor that lingers in your mouth forever - what a great wine. — 25 days ago

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Somm David T
9.4

This is far too young but when I have a chance to look in on Cheval Blanc I do.

Nose shows; ripe blackberries, strawberries, dark cherries, plum, moist clays, coffee, moist herbs, roasted chestnuts, amazing florals that are red flowers, red roses, lilacs & violets.

The palate shows some nice evolution but still too young to drink. Ripe and slightly candied; blackberries, strawberries, dark cherries, raspberries & plum. Moist clays, coffee, moist herbs, roasted chestnuts, espresso, mid berry cola, caramel, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, crazy, round, bold spice, moist tobacco, used leather, graphite, dark, rich earth, dry stone, limestone, soft oak powder notes, amazing florals that are red flowers, red roses, lilacs & violets, round, rainfall acidity, balance, mid structure/tension, grand length and a two-minute long polished finish.
