Hermann J. Wiemer

Magdalena Vineyard Riesling 2020

Slight lemongrass bouquet. Slight and subtle fresh aromas.

Bought two of these so I could taste one after some years.

Super balanced. A rush of fresh effervescence and meadow like palate. Blades of supple grass, a beautiful chew, bracing acidity balanced with nice mineralogy.

Very elegant. And quaffable. Slight petrol note towards the end but nicely accentuates the overall expression of Riesling.

La Nature'l Extra Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

Dry, light, citrus. Not overly complex. Nicer cavas are better value. — 3 months ago

Light gold color. Pineapple and petrol on the nose. Massive 4th of July sparklers with a sweetness component on the palate. Medium minus depth and medium finish. Very enjoyable. My best bottle of this wine and vintage. — 4 months ago

Finger Lakes Dry Riesling 2020

9.2

Half bottle. Light gold color. Nose dominated by petrol and maybe some melons and pineapples. Wine is very deep and more sweet than acidic. On the younger side with potential.

This opened up nicely after 20 mins+, even got some subtle lilac tones.

Invitation Brut Champagne Blend

So good. Clean, brioche, green apple, crushed rocks and great acid. Was lucky enough to visit the winery last year. Really great producer. — 4 months ago

Extra Quality Brut Champagne Blend

Popped and poured; no formal notes. The “Extra Quality” is a silly, old-school sounding designation…but this is sort of an old-school style of Champagne. It was a little “meh” on the first pour; unwilling to show much. However, with some air it opened up and displayed a pleasant balance of fruit and autolytic character. Works a little better with food than an aperitif. Disgorged May of 2022 — 5 months ago

I’m a fan of this producer. Had their 2010 BdB a few days ago…excellent.

@Shay A I’ve enjoyed this producer the few times I’ve had the opportunity to experience them. Last summer, we drank their ‘99 d’Harbonville and that was outstanding

Thörnicher Ritsch Auslese Riesling 1993

One of the best things I’ve had in recent memory. Lychee, passion fruit, sapote - some of the most beautiful fruit in one place — 2 months ago

Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett Riesling 2021

Loved it. Crisp, vibrant stone fruit, minerally infused and a tangy sweet under note. It paired perfectly with aged, white cheddar (Cougar gold!) topped with either a jalapeño infused strawberry preserve or a plum chutney. 😋 — 3 months ago
