Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1985

Enjoyed alongside some other Napa legends from the 80’s and 90’s. The 1985 is lovely and came more than willing, with a mix of tart, ripe and desiccated red fruits, Montmorency cherries, red currants, graphite, toasted coconut, leather and nuts. There was a slightly sherried character early on the nose but the structure seemed to defy age. No need to cellar further as this is delicious now and well stored examples should continue to be through 2030+. — 21 days ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

Wow! Really hit the spot with the next generation. We went out with a bunch of 30 something things and they fell over for this wine. So did I and can’t believe how good it was. Really would like to get some more. — 22 days ago

Contra Costa County Carignane 2014

2014 drunk in 2024. Last bottle of this vintage. Still holds up and has more time in it. Lovely subtlety that does open up a bit with time. — 2 months ago

Agricola San Felice

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2021

New vintage of this classic go-to everyday Chianti. Light and bright, 13% alc, elegant fruit. Just a great value. I have had every vintage since 2015 and always liked it. — 3 months ago

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2006

Served alongside beef short rib, xo sauce, pickled mustard seed, cumin stir-fried asparagus. This bottle of 2006 was throwing a ton of sediment. Showing mostly red fruits with red currants, new leather, tobacco, earth, forest floor, baking spices…a touch green. Hello Cabernet Franc!! Good structure. The finish is long. Every time I have the opportunity to enjoy Sassicaia, I am reminded why it’s one of the great wines of Italy. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. Drink now through 2036. — 21 days ago

Cavallotto

Vigna San Giuseppe Riserva Bricco Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

2013 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately and after 30 mins. Reticent nose. Medium-heavy body. Massive flavors and structure. Wouldn’t open it any time soon. Phenomenal now but so so intense. If you can Potsie it for a decade plus, do so. Another reminder as to why Barolo is the wine of kings. 11.01.24. — 22 days ago

Hirsch Vineyards

San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir 2012

Has some fight, bite, and spice. Dark persona, firmly structured with a core of sandy salinity, a little weight and tannic tension. Wild sour green strawberries, unripe raspberries, cedar lining.

Reserved, but punchy.

Mount Eden Vineyards

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 1978

Deep fruit. A touch of tang. Some tobacco and dried herbs. Iron and deep fruit. So young given its age. Quite intense. Soulful. Excellent — 2 months ago
