Fantastic burg from a wonderful vintage. Complex and dynamic nosed with med + intensity. Blend of primary and secondary notes with black cherry and leather at the forefront. Palate was well balanced and structured. The fruit was beginning to fade and sweeten up a bit. Delicious notes of earth, herbs, and leather. Faded a bit after 1 hr of being open. #2002s were generally overshadowed by the international press in favor of the 2001s, which, in themselves, were indeed lovely #Mosel #Rieslings. However, as time goes by, it's becoming more and more obvious that the the tables have turned now that some of the baby fat has been assimilated into what have turned out to be utterly beautiful examples of what Mosel Rieslings are all about: finesse, elegance, minerality & harmony!

#Roumier red #Burgundies are now considered to be amongst the very top echelon of #Pinots from anywhere on earth. His #Musigny is virtually unaffordable along with the top DRCs, but the queen at his court is this Bonnes-Mares, and a very worthy royalty it is. My 4th bottle, the best and my last, this absolutely killed it and is why I love Napa Valley Cabernet, especially #Spottswoode. 12 years old this easily has another 10 to go but is in a beautiful place right now. Open or decant for 30 minutes, though I did not decant. A deep resold color, not a sign of brick as one would expect. Shows the importance of provenance (bought from winery). A complex set or aromas and flavors of creme d'cassis, currants, sweet and sour cherries, sweet cedar, and graphite. Palate wise the textures are all in alignment, with medium to full body, ample acidity and medium grain slightly chewy tannins that may be it's only flaw. #2002 — 11 years ago
