Inky in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of black fruits with cedar and chocolate notes.

Full-bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and very fruity with blackberries, cooked plums, figs, vanilla, licorice, cedar, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, light earth and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious 12 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward with a soft mouthfeel. complex and interesting.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Another great wine from the hands of Philippe Melka.

Good by itself, and will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French Oak barrels for 20 months.

This is so delicious, and a perfect end to the work week. It’s ruby red and medium bodied. Nose is a bit subdued, with woody herbs, hints of leather, and some raspberry/black cherry as well. Mouthfeel is smooth and rich with beautifully saturated black cherry flavor and a layer of all spice, bay leaf, and subtle leather. Just beautiful. Medium acidity and medium tannins. Long, splendid finish. Now I need to buy a few more bottles to see how this evolves. Day 2: Still beautiful. Getting some sassafras and strong anise flavors now with soft hints of leather in the background. — 6 months ago

We had a vertical tasting of 2018 and 2020 Little Hill Single Vineyard PN. Both have similar bouquets and palates. Black cherry and minerality. 2020 is a little more floral. 2018 has a more darker tone; and that is good. Both have nice mouthfeels with smoothed out tannins. 2018 is a little more velvety. Both very good. It seems these PN need more time in the bottle — 7 months ago

Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Merlot and Malbec blended in. Dark ruby color. Aromas of cooked black cherries and blueberries. The palate offers a blend of jammy red, blue and blackberry fruit along with notes of mint, baking spices, coffee and orange zest. Medium-plus body and well balanced. My kind of #californication 🙂 Deep and spicy (finish) with strong bitter chocolate. Mild tannins, medium acidity. Black fruits - barely palpable. But a leather, smoke maybe - they do the job. My second wine from William Hill - the first one was fantastic blend (2014). — 6 years ago

As a long time lover of Pax Wines. These have changed with age. Once a powerhouse, it’s become more sublime. Aged Syrah is awesome, just different. Dry and elegant, with a dark fruit on the nose, the palate reveals blackberry and spicy and lots of black pepper. Rich mouthfeel and medium acidity. It’s all still there, but on it’s last leg. Initially a bit closed, after two hours in the decanter this really opens up. Black cherry and sage come through on the nose and continue onto the palate with additional notes of cassis, bay leaf, and cloves. Has a persistent finish with herbs, spice, and black tea lingering on the palate. The herbal and spice flavors were really vibrant when paired with basil pesto pasta and mushrooms. Medium+ acidity, medium+ body, and medium tannins. This is the 2021 vintage. — 5 months ago

It's time for some Merlot on this MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, light black pepper, herbs, light vanilla and licorice.

Tangy finish with soft tannins.

This 5-year-old Merlot from Napa Valley is peaking now, and drinking very nicely. Fruit forward with an elegant mouthfeel.

Wine Spectator 91 points.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good for parties. Good with food too.

A blend of 77% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Syrah. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Nose of black cherry, raisinated currant, light toast, lighter pepper, carnation, violet, licorice, blackberries with honey. Mouth-coating with a luxurious mouthfeel showing silky tannins with a modicum of grain. Cassis, graphite, baked blueberry, black currant. Sustain. Bold and unabashed.

Popped and poured; no formal notes. This 2006 Chappellet “Pritchard Hill” Cabernet Sauvignon was enjoyed alongside a 2001 St. Supery “Dollarhide” and a 2005 Beaulieu Vineyard “Georges De Latour”. All three were well stored examples from the same cellar. The 2006 “Pritchard Hill” is easily the biggest wine we enjoyed on this night. Big and bold with ripe (and maybe some stewed) black and red fruits, some tobacco, leather and baking spices. Good structure. An impressive wine for lovers of the more modern style of Napa Cabernet’s yet, there is something for all because the quality of the Pritchard Hill fruit is undeniable. Drink now and over the next 5-10 years. — 3 years ago

We opened the bottle for an hour before dinner. Initially a powerful aroma of blackberries flooded the dining room. Slowly it mutated to black and red cherries with earth. Multi layered complexity the wine was an absolute pleasure to drink with. If you look at QPR it would@blow all burgundies out of the water! Simply sensational! — 4 years ago

09’ Edge Hill Abel 1833 Mount Veeder. Ruby red in color with a slight purpleish rim. Unlike the O’shaughnesy this wine is close to a PNP. Dark black fruits, tobacco, mint, herbs. The acidity is still apparent 4/10 The tannins have all but melted away in this cab/blend? Has become quite beautiful/seamless. Don’t see this getting any better. Drink them up in the next 5 - 10 years. — 6 years ago
