The wine is subtle and elegant. The tannins are velvety, and the acidity rounds out the finish. The taste buds provide more of an experience than the nose. Dried plum, leather, tobacco, perhaps a softening vanilla. A few more herbs (?) finish, but I'm betting on clove. — 5 months ago
Always love the wines from LdH and this is no exception. Very nice at just over 20 years of age. Definitely secondary, no need to wait longer. Opened for a few hours before service but no decant. Red berry fruit, nice seamlessness, great acid and a long finish. Perfect pairing with roast chickens on Thanksgiving part 2. — 7 months ago
Very nice one with Tapas. — 9 months ago
Blend of mostly Tempranillo with about equal amounts of Garnacho, Graciano and Manzuelo, deep Ruby with a graceful bouquet of berry fruits, cigar box spice with fresh earthy tones, a traditional Rioja, still reticent. On the silky smooth palate, elegant with layers of flavors of ripe blackberry and cherry, tobacco, smoky cedar, dark fruit, vanilla spice, very well balanced with fine soft tannins and a clean structure ending with a nice long chalky earthy character. Delicious! — a year ago
Oaky, dark fruit, coffee, smoky, eucalyptus, underbrush with a smooth mineral salty long finish. Tannins and acidity on the high side but overall it is well balanced wine... Decanting is a MUST!! Nice honest, unpretentious and bold wine that could compliment ANY plate. Guarantee of enjoyment and mood improvement! Testament to things well done ... — 5 years ago

Splash decanted directly before service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours out of red Solo cups. The 1981 Gran Reserva Blanco pours, a golden color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of Khalas dates, dried apricot, black lemon, almonds, toasted coconut and marshmallow. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is waxy. A cerebral wine and just lovely stuff. Well stored bottles have a long life yet left ahead. Drink now with patience and plenty of air and through 2051. — 8 months ago
One of my faves. The unique iodine taste of a Spanish rioja paired beautifully with the duck. Wow. — a year ago
“Ojo Gallo’, Castellano for ‘rooster eye’ (in other words, what the French call ‘oeil de perdrix’), hearkens back to the traditional clarete style of the region. This dark rosé (light red?) is a field blend of very old vines of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Bobal, Monastrell, Viura, Albillo and Malvasia co-fermented in cement and raised for 8 months in used barrels before bottling without added sulfur” — 4 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2012 Rosado pours pink/salmon color with medium viscosity and no signs of sediment or particles. On the nose, the wine is developing with Maraschino cherry, dried apricot, coconut, dill, vanilla, and walnut. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium- tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Brilliant, soulful stuff. My first experience with the 2012 vintage. I hope there are many more to come. Drink now with patience (maybe even a decant) and through 2037. — 5 months ago

2023. This is a fantastic valued easy drinking and surprisingly complex wine. Medium body light tannins slightly acidic dry to off dry. Aromas of red cherry strawberry lavender earth hay. Red fruit and earthen on pallet, prune raisin orange zest

My first and I found it quite interesting. Nutty with a fino type finish. Definitely need to have food with the bright acidity it has. I think more age is needed to bring the out the complexity. The oxidative style isn’t for everyone — 5 months ago
