Burgundy Chardonnay

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 1988

Cork broke in half (actually 6-7 pieces), initially some “old cork” flavors show through, yet after 5 minutes in the glass those dissipate and we’re left with a lovely aged Raveneau with mature fruit, some lemon and mineral notes as well, very nice complexity and length, I’ve always been very lucky aging my Raveneau, this is clearly a success (shaky cork notwithstanding)! — 19 days ago

Wow! So cool. I have ZERO experience with Raveneau and ZERO Raveneaus in my cellar. ☹️ so your advice is purely of a hypothetical nature for me. (I’ve been lucky enough to have a few Dauvissats, however.) Did you use a Durand corkscrew? I use that with any 20 year or older bottle. Essential.

@Tom Casagrande, I did not, but the cork broke into so many pieces that I don’t think what cork puller I used mattered (shrug)!

Rich tropical nose and very seamless chablis like palate, at its apex. Beautiful wine! — a month ago

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1970

DRC Night at Secrets Moxché in Cancun. Held up better than most aged burgs I’ve had. Color is pale garnet, brickish. Notes of old church, library, dried red berries, medium body, acidity still vibrant. Long finish. Past its peak, possibly, but extremely intelectual wind. — 16 days ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Absolutely on fire with lemon zest and acidity, ripe fruit, a finish that echoes. Used to be the value grand cru white. This still has the Premier Cru strip label. — 15 days ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2018

Going for a magnum of this wonderful 2018 white Burgundy. Heavy on the alcohol and the typical Burgundy Chardonnay flavors. Hits the mark — 23 days ago

"Cuvée Corcelette" Morgon Gamay 2019

Very nice. For some reason I always find myself enjoying wines from “Corcelette” and this is no exception. Decanted for 2 hours which helped balance things a bit, though to be honest this felt pretty ready to go from the jump. Great balance of fruit, florals, earthy savory ness, and acid, with a finish that really lingers. Nice wine. — 7 days ago

Starts out great the tapers off. But it is a regional will made from declassified Puligny and Meursault fruit — 11 days ago

Grands Échézeaux Pinot Noir 2019

It’s not about QPR when you have a chance to drink history. I had other plans for this bottle but I thought about the bottles I’ve sold over the years and never tasted which now I regret.
You can’t take them with you so you might as well enjoy while you can. Very good, bigger than I expected from a Burgundy but its another bucket list bottle
