Castello Banfi

Banfi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

This 2019 has subtle aromas with olives and herbs on initial palate. Figgy with tart and dried cherries. Solid, not spectacular — 15 days ago

Vigna d'Alceo Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot Blend 2016

Too young but insane potential...going to buy more. Love this wine and its depth and complexity. Paired well with venison. — 11 days ago

Aska Bolgheri Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc

Very nice Bordeaux blend. Nice spicy aroma with good finish. Peppery at end. Still has tannins and should age for 5-10 years. Vintage. 2020 — 16 days ago

Castello di Bossi

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

A vigorous young Chianti Classico. Intense and a little peppery from the alcohol. Nice accompaniment to pasta with a rich meat sauce. — 12 days ago

Sammarco Toscana SuperTuscan Blend 2011

Our princess her birthday. Time for the yearly 2011. This Sammarco was soo good. A bit of VA in the nose, sweet start and than the acidity kicks in. Very balanced. And quite some time ahead. Wow! — 14 days ago

Castello di Volpaia

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2020

Ruby in color with aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, vanilla, and earthy hints. Decanting softens the smoky notes, revealing bright red fruit and a touch of licorice. The palate is dry and well-balanced, with smooth tannins, refreshing acidity, and a long, fruity finish. A versatile, well-structured wine that pairs easily with food.

Castello di Ama

Vigneto San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

See previous Note. Old plummie, red cherry notes. Barb said dusty and pine needles. A cooler vintage. I said red cherries and freshly tilled loam. As Galloni said “In 2010 Ama did not bottle their single vineyard selections. All the best fruit went here.” Tasting more the quality of a Brunello than a Chianti Classico. No. 6 in Wine Spectators Top 100 for 2015. — a month ago

In 2015, the WS Top 100 meant something. To look at it the last few years it is puzzling. I recently read their website for the criteria they use to come up with their top 100 and all I could do after reading the criteria and seeing their 2024 selections is scratch my head.

@Bob McDonald first vintage of Gran Selezione ever, definitely a good start with the 2010. Great pull!
