John Lewis Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2008

Hard to believe this is a 17yr old WA state Syrah. 100% varietal, all from Les Collines vineyard. 13.9ABV

Sporting a deep purple color even at 17yrs, this feels like it is just now entering prime time. Big aromatics of peppered smoked meats, whole cluster/green herbs, red and blackberry fruits. Floral and balanced with fruit but spices/herbs in the background. Where Cayuse (and all Christophe Baron/Rocks district) wines trend to the savory/sanguine profile (which I enjoy), this balances the dark fruit, smoky/charcoal, savory/spice driven side of Syrah in its typical rustic/feral profile. Nice bridge between cool climate New World Syrah and ripe vintage Cornas. Finish is more vibrant and less requiring of food as the CB wines do.

Followed over three days and shockingly held up. If you have a bottle, open and enjoy but no immediate rush.

Estate Red Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose with red fruits, chocolate notes, spices and tobacco leaf.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, cherries, plums, light oak, chocolates, peppercorn, light earth and herbs.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward with lots of red fruits and chocolate notes. Tangy, complex and interesting.

This 10 year old still feels younger and vibrant. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Feels like the Merlot and Petit Verdot are very dominant, and the alcohol is nicely integrated by now.

Drinking very nicely right out of the bottle, and good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Aged for 22 months in (70% New) French Oak barrels.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Camaspelo Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2020

Too early to open. There is potential but now the wine is too strong and not integrated. Strong pepper 🫑 flavor combined with slightly sweet fruit. Nose is excellent with strong pepper. Wait until 2030. I used a Coravin and did not have a chance to give it hours of air. — 5 months ago

The Tribe Vineyard Syrah 2017

Cranberry, pepper, and spice. Strongly flavored and full bodied New World style Syrah. Perfect for Persian lamb stew. A paradigm of the fruit forward style of Syrah. — 7 months ago

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cherries, blood notes, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, barnyard, light vegetables, light tar and black pepper.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Syrah from the Rocks District in Walla Walla Valley. In your face kind of wine. Rich, extracted and complex. Nicely balanced and elegant. Interesting stuff.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after a couple of hours of airtime.

This 6 year old Syrah is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves.

A great sipping wine that also paired nicely with a big piece of steak.

Uriah Estate Grown Walla Walla Valley Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

Brick in colour, fruit was still strong and it has been awhile but this wine gave me a very strong sense of place. Maybe it was nostalgia but I would have known it was Walla Walla blind folded. — 6 months ago

Foothills Reserve Syrah 2018

This wine is improving with age. An exceptional example of Washington State Syrah, this wine has a beautiful balance of alcohol, acid, fruit and silky tannins. Deep ruby color, the aroma and palate have great intensity without being heavy. Loads of blackberry, violet, black plum, licorice, cedar, clove, tobacco, tar, slate, dried leaves, leather and great minerality. Full bodied with a very long finish. It is a haunting wine with great finesse. — 2 months ago

Hey Tim, sorry that got left off. This was 2018. I bought a few bottles to open over tones. This one was noticeable bump up from the already very good one I opened two years shop. One left….

Pepper Bridge

Estate Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

We are into the 10 year old wines this weekend. And as we are heading to Walla Walla, we thought to give this wine a try after it was been in my cellar for more than 10 years. And…. hmm, a bit disappointed. Had expected much more complexity, layers of flavored and endless finish. Nope. Nice wine though, smooth, balanced, great vibrancy but, yeah, still single note and I don’t think there is more to discover with aging. — 4 months ago
