Saint-Joseph Syrah 2013

Red raspberry fruit and white pepper, good but lacking in complexity compared to the Juge and Jamet tasted with it. — 13 days ago

Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!

We’re breaking out the Burgundy with this 2011 Domaine Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin, one of nine grand cru climats in Gevrey-Chambertin located in the Côte de Nuits.

It’s a beautiful crimson hue trending garnet around the edges.

On the nose and palate are medium (+) intensity notes of Luxardo cherry, black raspberry, dried redcurrant, strawberry rhubarb preserves, rose water, cardamom and other sweet baking spices, star anise, anise seed, licorice, clove, pencil shavings, sandalwood, potpourri, mushroom, leather, moss, and forest floor.

It has a smooth mouthfeel with ripe, fine-grained tannins and a long, elegant finish. It is layered with complexity, dimension, and wonderful balance. All around superb!

Cheers to the holidays; savor it all!!

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Red Wine 2013

Double decanted two nights before service. The 2013 Insignia pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing but still quite youthful with notes of tart and ripe dark fruit: dense brambles, purple flowers, tobacco, vanilla and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. At 11 years of age, this remains tightly coiled and needs more time to open up and tell more of its story. All that being said, this is very good now…but to my palate, better after 2027 and through 2043. — a month ago

"Les Oliviers" Saint-Joseph Marsanne-Roussanne Blend 2016

Quite restrained aromatically at first but opened up a bit over the course of the evening. Honeysuckle, marzipan, Meyer lemon, pit fruit and melon, stony finish, broad on the palate. Still a spot on thanksgiving pairing — 20 days ago

Fairly good for a Sonoma Pinot - well balanced. Not a ton of oak — 17 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah

Depth and concentration, this bottle is an ode to south saint joseph wines, with great balance and complexity. To achieve a better grade I need more finesse, but the vintages is also like that — 2 days ago

There are two kinds of st Joseph. This is one of the good ones. Long finish. Complex. Quite serious. — a month ago
