Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Not sure I’ve had any other 2006 Bordeaux but decided to pull this to give it a go at nearly 20 years of age. Nice wine but perhaps not one that justifies the price point. At first quite tight, but after a 5 hour decant this really comes into its own. Lots of leather and dark blue and black fruit. Oak is really only apparent in structure now. Great acid. 13% which is nicely balanced. — 3 days ago

Château Haut-Bailly

Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Medium ruby garnet , quite thin garnet rim . Quite open and inviting tobacco , red plum , cassis , earthy hints . On the palate this has good balance and a mineral , herbal hints, along with the mix of red and dark fruits . This has good fresh acidity and grippy but polished tannin . Good length and is showing quite well . Better in 5 or so years and will last well a further 10 . At Vinous Icons NY , Pier 60 , Feb 2025 — 5 days ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1975

Medium deep garnet with a terracotta rim . This has some sous bois , earthy tobacco , coffee grinds , herbal touches , cedar and dried currants . On the palate this is quite dense and classic in profile , still quite a lot of tannin , sous bois , cedar , some cassis , tobacco and a little herbal. Quite stocky and chunky . Medium length , and balanced acidity . This is still quite dense on the palate , with grippy , slightly rustic tannins . Probably just past peak , but will hold over the next 5 years or so . Tasted at Hedonism Wines , London …. No label on the bottle ! — a month ago

Château Pavie

Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Blend of 60% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, deep Ruby purple color with aromas of ripe berry fruits, cedar, floral and earthy spice notes. On the palate flavors of blueberry, plums and blackberry with vanilla, licorice, tobacco, espresso and toasty oak notes. Long rich finish on fine ripe tannins, will age very well, can start to drink now, but should wait a decade or more. Very Nice! — 6 days ago

8/2025. This 2008 is still full of flavor and boldness. Wish I could have tasted it in 2012. — 3 days ago

1st Growth Bordeaux comparison. Broad and bold, with red berries and red currant, medium acidity, velvet tannins, medium plus alcohol, long finish. Like a ballerina draped in silk. — 22 days ago

Not fair to compare different years… 🧐 Premier Crus are excellent in their own way

Château Angélus

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

2000 vintage. Mid-shoulder fill with top-notch cork. Decanted and tasted after 3 hours. Medium/medium-heavy body. Jello chocolate pudding nose. Chunky mix of dark and milk chocolate flavors in the frontal palate that picked up a hitchhiking, dark plum passenger in the mid-palate and cruised to the finish without any speed bumps. Tannins almost completely integrated. Smooth, rich, weighty, crowd-pleasing finish. Wanted a small, dirty dissenting opinion to further confirm the current harmony/vibe but none was forthcoming. So much life ahead. Zero rush to crush. 08.01.25. — 12 days ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

1st Growth Bordeaux comparison. Mind blowing. I mean, from a weak Bordeaux vintage comes this masterpiece which can be enjoyed now or saved for decades to come. Beautiful nose and almost perfumed with roses and black cheery and blueberry, cedar, and pencil shavings. The palate is pure bliss full of complexity, intensity yet balanced and the finish just goes on and on. Cheers. — 22 days ago
