Poured through an aerator and sat for 15 minutes…
NOSE: strong, clear cassis. Meat. Pine, forest. Very mild chocolate and a little ash - and some raisin - but the cassis dominates.
Taste: medium weight, elegant, fruity bordeaux, with enough tannin to balance it perfectly - as on the nose, cassis and dark berry flavors dominate, but with a good herbal backbone. Simpler than I’d hoped, but just so very well made it doesn’t matter. Would love to taste this in a few years. 92. — 4 years ago
Nice raisin, with a cherry acid finish. — 7 years ago
Strawberry vinegar on the nose, tastes like strawberry-rose lemonade~ packs a punch with bracing acidity~ changed over time (5 months): first tasted like vinegar, now it juicy!!! — 7 years ago
Young and still a little tight but lots of kirsch, slate and stone fruit. With some raisin and vanilla. Very nice. — 7 years ago
On the nose : Cocoa/mocha, ground ginger, menthol/resin. Milk chocolate, raisin on the palate. A bit of a chocolate dessert in a glass. — 8 months ago
Lightly funky, acidic, dry and does taste a bit like a cider — 4 years ago
A delicious blend of mostly Malbec, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon. The Malbec initially takes center stage with classic aromas of black cherry, raisin, & sweet tobacco. Full bodied on the pallate but the Merlot definitely mellows the wine as it has medium well integrated tannins along with flavors of blackberry, baking spices & vanilla. aired nicely with NY strip streaks & grilled asparagus! Tar, raisin, soaked fig, cherry pit, wilted violet, hung meat, boudin noir, leather, cinnamon, cocoa powder, honey, truffle, scorched earth, roasted herbs, camphor, black tea. Wears the vintage well. More moderate frame (relatively speaking) showing some consistent grip throughout, surprised by the acid support this has, makes for a plausible argument about whether or not to continue aging. So tertiary and savory right now. — 7 years ago
Yum. Went well with pizza. Light body with a little funk and a little mineral like fiz. Drank slightly chilled. — 7 years ago
Spotted this at a wine store sitting right next to the 2016 vintage for the same price. Bought it without hesitation not knowing much about the producer. Am I glad I did!
Earthy, smoky, spicy, with hint of raisin and vanilla. Fruit has faded a bit but acidity is still very vibrant. Powerful entry but finishes off with gentle smooth tannins. Nice.
The bottle is very heavy - probably the heaviest 750ml bottle I’ve ever had. — 7 years ago
Deep garnet with a tawny rim. A savoury earthy mushroom note coming through - also balsamic notes. Fading red cherry on the palate. An excellent Brunello from a good vintage, travelling well at 15 years. A fabulous food wine with homemade fettuccine. I will probably drink my last bottle in 2027/28 although I have a drinking window through to the early 2030s. I ended up having my last bottle on 22 June 2026 with consistent notes. This really was an excellent Brunello. Towards the end of the bottle it showed aromas of dried fruit like raisin. — 9 months ago
Best wine I’ve had in a while. Liquid raisin! Smells like oak, campfire, and raisin. Tannic and astringent but full bodied with some sweetness-almost port-like. Definitely not cheap but also not the most expensive wine on the shelf. 100% worth it. Enjoyed with bolognese. Would love to have again — 4 years ago
Opaque crimson.
Black currant, blackberry, light toasty oak spice on nose.
Rich thick bodied with bright acidity, and lightly astringent velvety tannins on a long finish.
Great food wine!
Surprised no raisin character or overt sweetness perceived. — 6 years ago
Always treat yourself to a good birthday wine from your rack!
A huge nose of raisin and prune, as to be expected with both an aged wine, and one of this method.
Huge body, with hints of mint, touches of older, dried herbs. The fruit in this is dark cherry, roast peach, olive oil.
Totally worth aging these. Yum!
Light, gritty tannin all the way through, with the perfect pitch of acidity to counteract the fruit. — 7 years ago

The nose is enticing dark fruit and oak. Grippy tannins on the palate with tobacco, prune, oak, leather, and raisin notes that explode through mid-palate. The finish thrusts forward with acid in spades. This wine is a steamroller. — 7 years ago

My first Amarone was this 2006. 20 years age might just be the sweet spot. Deep, dark, inky garnet with fig, prune, raisin on the nose. Smooth texture, ripe tannins, more dark fruit on the pallet leaning into tertiary notes. Shared in my wine class how the Appassimento method is used to dry the grapes, concentrating the flavors prior to fermentation. This was a treat for all of us. — 5 months ago
