Les Sinards Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2023

This is a very nice wine. Enjoyed with a pork chop with cranberry glaze and friends. Light and delicate nose of fruit and terroir. The wine is nicely balanced with soft tannins, delicious acidity and works perfect! Enjoy!! — 6 days ago

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2020

Blend of about 66% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties, Medium Ruby color with aromas of ripe black fruits and earthy pepper spice. On the palate complex rich flavors of cherry and blackberry, with oak, leather, cacao and earthy spice. Full body, well balanced, fine tannins, long finish, perfect now but will last another decade. Outstanding! — 3 days ago

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2002

Medium dark rubi robe, no fading, actually looks like at least 10 years younger. Nose of flowers and anise, blackcurrant in the end. Oh so rich and so good in the mouth. Getting better after 20 minutes of uncorking. Tonight it’s a hair better than the RSV we tasted just before. Great stuff. — a month ago

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1990

Classic Besucastel! I first visited this property in 1987, and the Brett character was unmistakeable. This 1990 is aging extremely well. Strong Brett aromas, but the fruit is also strong and in balance. If you are one that thinks Brett is an unforgivable flaw, you will hate this. Great Chateauneuf from a great vintage! Celebrating my son’s 33rd birthday tonight (1993 wasn’t a great vintage in CdP!) with a perfectly grilled NY steak. I am very pleased with this wine — 2 months ago

Millésime de Collection Special Club Chardonnay Champagne 2002

Shay A
9.5

94-95

A grower champagne I always enjoy, but I’ve not had their special club offering with this much age before. I’ve been missing out! A stunner!

54% Cramant, 31% Chouilly (both Grand Crus), with 15% Cuis (Premier Cru); all old vines. Disgorged July 2012; 6g/l dosage

This may be an example of hitting lightening in a bottle, but this caught me (and others I was with) totally off-guard at how youthful it was…and more importantly, how unbelievably good it was. Channeling an oxidative flair at this point in its evolution, this scratched the itch for creamy, powerful, golden champagne. Autolysis on full display (in the best way) with lemon scone, honey roasted cashews, spiced pears aromatically. Honeyed graham crackers, lemon cream, Biscotti cookie, kiss of ginger and plenty of chalky limestone grit toward the finish (but the sweet autolysis lengthens it out beautifully). For me, this tasted like this was the exact right day to catch this wine at peak.

I wish I had a case of these.

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1990

Some new oak (12 months in oak casks) nicely frames this lovely red-fruited, Grenache-driven CdP, suave, nicely balanced, long, lingering finish, the 1990 CdPs were riper than the 1989s and 1988s, but this is 14% ABV and shows some nice restraint, and is really quite wonderful!! BTW, this was one of the luxury cuvées of CdP that started showing up in 1989/1990, the regular CdP is simply called Beaurenard (this is bottle # 2074, so I’d guess maybe 2,000 cases or so?) — 12 days ago

so much bang for the buck - reminds me of when southern Rhône used to be affordable... captivating wine: gorgeous dark ruby color, deep reservoir of black & red fruits, pepper, garrigue and exotic spices. Composed, graceful, med bodied palate, beautiful balance w/bright acidity carrying all the flavors thru long smooth finish — a month ago

La Romanée Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1999

Welp…I didn’t expect to run into the 1999 “La Romanée” again so soon, but the generosity of my brothers in wine is extraordinary so, here we are. For the most part, my previous notes still apply and given that this bottle was part of a special lineup, I find them all the more valid.

This bottle was opened about an hour prior to service. The 1999 “La Romanée” pours a slightly deep ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and sanguine with black cherry, bruised strawberry, some roasted meat, mushrooms, sous bois and fine spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. Still phenomenal old school GC Burgundy though, not quite as rustic as the 2001 Louis Remy, Latricières-Chambertain from earlier in the day…but certainly more old school than the 2005 DRC Romanée St. Vivant. Can’t believe I got to experience this again. The old drinking window holds true. Drink now with patience and through 2049+.
