Lagier Meredith

Mount Veeder Syrah 2005

Still quite dark purple-red color, nose is quite closed, some mineral, iodine and black pepper aromas, red and black fruits which taste quite primary and youthful, great acid balance, structure shows in the long, lingering finish, I’d guess 10-15 more years of further aging on this to maturity, but awfully great tonight!! — 2 months ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Tasted over 2 days. Big and brawny—fruit and tannins still primary. Will have a very long life. Would love to try again in a decade. — 2 years ago

Very linear and primary still but opening up nicely with a rare purity and supple tannins. Good stuff. — 2 years ago

Domaine Auguste Clape

Youthful & mostly primary that you can approach now with its dark cherry, berry fruits, lots of spice, underbrush, meat & violet — 6 months ago

Harlan Estate

Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend 2004

With 20 years of age this wine has evolved. The primary fruit has moved to deep dried versions of cherry blackberry and fig side by side with earth tar leather cedar bitter cocoa and tobacco. The nose is extremely pronounced and the tannins now soft. It was worth keeping these 2 decades. — a year ago

Château Gruaud Larose

Château Musar

Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2014

Now I see how this wine can be so divisive. LOTS of brett at first, more band-aid than barnyard. Takes a while to get past it and then lots of exotic spices show up. But after 40 minutes in the glass still nothing primary. It’s got the funk I can appreciate in some good left bank Bordeaux but also feels somewhat single-threaded. — 4 years ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

A murky purple magenta color, but still appears young. Very aromatic with beautiful notes of blackberry, perfume followed by sandalwood, wet rich soil, pencil lead and sweet oak. Tastes young with tannins still present leaving many years for aging. Primary flavors of blackberry cedar and bitter sweet chocolate with secondary notes of cassis, new leather, pepper, dried herbs, and gravel giving it a long dry finish. Should pair with our Neapolitan marinara pizza and pasta dinner tonight. Looking forward to see what another several years will add to its flavor profile. — a year ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Had a bottle year ago. Blend of 95% Cab Sauv, 4% Merlot, rest Petit Verdot, Malbec & Cab Franc, blended then aged for 24 mos in 50% new & 50% once-used American oak. Deep Ruby, youthful aromas of black fruit, sweet cacao & complex spice. Palate shows flavors of rich ripe juicy berries & cherries, core of sweet fruit with oak & vanilla notes. Nicely integrated firm, graceful tannins, long finish, displays primary fruits on ending, developing some secondary aging, nice. Excellent. — 3 years ago
