Tsar Alexander I

Alexander Valley Vineyards

Cyrus Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

I was given the responsibility of opening and serving this bottle to the guests of a 40th birthday celebration. From double-magnum. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2005 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous, with notes of ripe and slightly desiccated fruit: cassis, blackberry, black plum, tobacco, leather, Pablano pepper, vanilla, earth, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (that is mostly integrated) and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This wine, from this format is in a really lovely spot. Drink now through 2035. — 21 days ago

Uncaged California Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Completely opaque. Purple and garnet with nice legs. Smells like bold cherry and dark fruit. A little sweet with some tartness I didn't expect toward the end. Cherry, raspberry, blackberry. Light tannin. I wonder how this would taste if I let it sit a while. Pretty good, decently priced. — 4 years ago

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

On 8-26-19, I turned 52. I am now obsessed with cards, since I am now playing with a full deck!

My first exposure to this winery. Nice big cab, with veggie notes, green bell pepper, rosemary. Really nice.

Visited them the last time we were out in the Valley. Solid lineup. I think this was one of my wife's favorites

Their single vineyard wines are really good.

Ridge Vineyards

Geyserville Alexander Valley Zinfandel Blend 2023

9.3

This is my favorite Zinfindel blend from Ridge. I like it/them more with 8-10 years of bottle age. But this 2023 drank very well young. One of the best current releases I’ve had in a while. Fresh as it was very recently bottled! 93+ in time.

Sirloin Steak was tip top.

Pebble Beach Food & Wine 2025.

The ticket to this event has a pretty big price tag. But when you consider what a Napa etc. tasting or two and lunch would cost you, you are pretty much there and there is so much more than that. It ends up having great value. It’s wine, spirits and food candy land.

Definitely will have it again. We decanted for half an hour - one hour, and it was amazing! The only bad thing, its that I only had one bottle! — 2 years ago

Au Bon Climat

Knox Alexander Estate Bottled Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2017

Tonight we have opened the 2017 Au Bon Climat Santa Maria Valley Knox Alexander Pinot Noir.

On the nose there is strawberry, cranberry, cherry, spice, mushroom, cola, lavender, forest floor and earth.

On the palate there is strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, cherry, spice, red currant, smokey oak, forest floor and earth.

This is a medium bodied wine with a plush mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium fine polished tannins that lead to a long red fruit earthy finish. I hope everyone is doing well and have great plans for this weekend. Have a wonderful time with family and friends, please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Silver Oak

I can’t remember the last time I tasted this brand, and while it’s very approachable, it’s a total construction site. Vanilla and over-sweet brown sugar with resolved tannins. Not my cup-of-tea, but will be enjoyed by others. — 2 months ago

@Jay Kline, I have older vintages of Napa and Alexander Valley, and they are nothing like what I tasted here. Just so you know, the 94 Silver Oak Napa cab was the wine that actually helped to create my current, measly credit score… Silver Oak has certainly sh!t the bed (in my opinion) since the late 90’s.

@Ron R I agree. I’ve had some vintages from the early 80’s that were really good but man…the oak has been overbearing for probably 20 years

The Calling Wines

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Seems like I like this better than everyone else.
Balanced tart fruit and crisp tannins.

A touch of persimmon / cardamom sophistication.

A bit subtle for a cab.

Just a touch sweet for me. Maybe a touch oaky… but that’s being pretty picky.

Katherine Crazy Creek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

A full bodied Cabernet I received as a gift. Dark ruby color with a dark fruit nose with lots of dark fruit in the nose and palate. Suprisingly good. — 4 years ago
