Full bodied and soft with nice complexity and balance.

This is a gorgeous 15 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and elegant. Complex and nicely balanced. Fruit forward and interesting.

Good right out of the bottle and delicious by itself.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

This is a very good wine. Not the 98/100 good and one can certainly question the $200 price tag, but a well made higher end wine for sure. Decanted for 2 hours (which was needed) and drank over 2 days; didn’t notice significant evolution on day 2. High alcohol content. Clear but clean and harmonious tannins. Nice fruit and mineral tartness. 93-94 for me. — 7 months ago

Estate Argyros Santorini

Cuvee Monsignori Assyrtiko 2017

Sniffing upon opening, this had me jumping for joy – and I’m not exaggerating. What an introduction! I immediately chose to decant the wine, although in hindsight I don’t think that’s really necessary. The ‘Cuvee Monsignori’, one of the flagship wines from Estate Argyros in Santorini, is 100% Assyrtiko from ancient (~200 year old) vines, the minimal yield of which is then fermented in stainless steel, and aged for ten months on its lees. The island was never affected by phylloxera, hence the vines’ great age. It’s a muscular, chiseled, lean wine with the precision of the very best Chablis and impeccable concentration of fruit. It carries the smoke of the island’s volcanic soils (this is no floral language: it really smells of it), beautiful flinty reduction, depth and harmony on the palate and a long, saline finish. It may count among the world’s finest whites, and all for around £30 (if you can find it). Why didn’t I buy this by the case? I’ll never know. Superb. — 2 months ago

Bodegas Vinicola Real

200 Monges Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2012

Expressive nose, a bit reduced at first, then on ti ripe cherries, cocoa, liquorice , plums. Ample bodied, son of a dry and hot vintage, acidity that holds the alcohol and hood length and youth for a 2012. Remarkable, unexpected village, Albelda, must be the high land on the way to Clavijo. — 8 months ago

Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend 1995

Dark ruby in color with a very short reddish rim. Not showing age at all.

Strong fruity nose with cedar, vanilla, chocolates and black fruits.

Full bodied, elegant and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and very fruity, with black currants, plums, tobacco, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, herbs and light alcohol.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This 28 year old is still drinking beautifully, but was probably better a few years ago.

Nicely balanced and elegant with nice complexity.

Needed 90 minutes of airtime to open up properly.

Enderle & Moll

Ménage à Trois Pinot Noir 2013

200 bottles or so made. Rare obviously. Assemblage’s of their best grapes. E&M could not keep this name a US winery which sells plunk send them a warning. Nose orange rind and black currants. In the glass, tannins resolved, high acid, hint crushed marble, very elegant. Touch cherries, forest floor, bark, touch cumin. A joy to drink and contemplate life while this opens up. 2013 was a really difficult year. This shows that this winery can make great stuff even in off years. At its peak i would say drink now. Oh man i might drink the bottle before the guests show up. Monumental. — 8 months ago

Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2021

8.9

Nice Provence rose.
From the label:
COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE

Owned by the Quiot family from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 200 acre estate lies at the foot of Mont Sainte Victoire near Aix-en-Provence. Its winemaking facilities have been completely renewed over the past 3 years.
This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre.
Special efforts are made to preserve freshness and fruit by the use of CO2 gas to exclude oxygen during the harvest. This is a fresh rosé with a pretty salmon-pink color, elegant flavors of red berries, mineral notes and a clean finish. Serve this wine lightly chilled. Very nice on its own, it goes well with most dishes, specially sushi, salads, pizza and mild cheeses.
