Cantina Zaccagnini

Il Vino Dal Tralcetto Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2021

Berry forward, complex, full bodied with just a hint of chocolate and oak. Easy drinking but stands up to whatever you're pairing it with. Was the go-to wine for my late grandmother and I see why. I would absolutely drink this again and raise a glass to her. — 8 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Guidalberto Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2022

Impressive nose but lacking a bit of body at the moment. Too young and will no doubt improve in the coming 5 years. — 8 days ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2012

Plenty of tannins left. 25bucks. Those were the days! 14%| Quite classic. Browne tinge. Needs at least 2-3 hours of air. Quite harsh and astringent. Roses, earthy and dusty, very dry. Hint of truffles. - Not super exciting at first (15min) so wait. Will last another 10 years - but i do worry about the fruit component if you need space in your cellar - i would suggest drink up. I will. Some folks tend to hype these wines i don’t - after all this is their most basic version with a large production volume. Total volume is 500,000 bottles a year at this cooperative. My guess they to make a lot of this one. — 12 days ago

I believe I gave this wine an enthusiastic review as well. Cheers!

Marchesi Antinori

Solaia Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1999

Decant and pour (lots of chunky/fine sediment). A striking purplish magenta color. On the nose: Alluring perfumed nose of dark cherry, worn leather, black olives, smoked meat, herbaceous, touch of brett(bandaids). Taste: velvety, creamy, savory, structured wine with dark plum/blackberry preserve, minerals, earth, chocolate espresso, leather, and a long lingering spicy tobacco leaf finish. YUM! — 7 days ago

Masseto

Toscana Merlot 2003

Double decant for sediment(lots of chunky/fine sediment)and pour. A splendid medium dark purplish magenta color. On the nose: Intoxicating perfumed notes of stewed cherry, fig, herbaceous, roasted meat, funky earth, toasted marshmallow. Taste: opulent mature savory wine with ripe plum, licorice, saline, and a graphite dried herb long finish. YUM! Not bad for a harsh hot/dry vintage. — an hour ago

Plainly native Piedmont, but super-approachable now. Very pretty and open with lots of red roses. — 4 days ago

Beautiful wine. Dusty tannins. Black cherry with faint herbs. Probably would benefit from a decant — 4 days ago

Marchesi Antinori

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

I bought this bottle in Florence around 2019. I later found out the shop was owned by Antinori - the producer of the wine. An excellent Super Tuscan from Bolgheri. 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Dark Ruby with a tawny rim starting to develop. Classic Bordeaux descriptors of Cassis, herbs, tobacco and hints of cocoa with oak totally integrated. A rich and mouth filling palate such that it could have been from a new world vineyard in a good vintage. This is comparable in quality to a good Super Second. Interestingly the 2007 had the major change of Syrah being eliminated from the blend in favour of Cabernet Franc. An outstanding Bordeaux blend which exceeded expectations. I should keep an eye out for more bottles. — 7 days ago

Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

I would have guessed Brunello rather than Barolo — a little lighter than expected. Granite, rose, violet, red fruit, Italianate acidity - but not overly complex. Enjoyable. Just squeaks into 91. Not a great value for the $35 I paid. — a day ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Pretty and quite approachable at this young age. Aromas of rose petal, red cherry, raspberry, and tar. Light tobacco and dried herbs also on the palate, with fresh acidity and elegant refined tannins.
The 2020 vintage in Piedmont seems to be quite open and expressive early, but age worthy as well.
