Despite a nine year difference the color of the wines were very similar. There were no doubt that the wines were siblings, the DNA was very clear. On the nose, they were twins with the younger sibling demonstrating more intensity, but the exact same scents. It was on the palate where differences showed up. The fruit had a slightly darker profile along with cassis, cigar box and cedar. Slightly more tannins that did not impede a long finish which did not show any hint of alcohol. Blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby red color, purple hues, with aromas of dark berry fruits, herbs an slight floral notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with licorice, tobacco, cedar and gentle floral spice. Long finish, great balance, fine chewy tannins that opened after decanting for 30 minutes, ending with fruit, cedar and earthy character. Nice, will age a bit. — 3 months ago

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Red and black fruits on the nose with tobacco, light wood, licorice, chocolates, black pepper, herbs and spices.

Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, red currants, sweet raspberries, coffee, sweet oak, chocolates, licorice, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth and mediterranean spices.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 4 year old Super Tuscan Merlot is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and entertaining.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and balance itself out.

Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.

I had the 2021 vintage a couple of years ago at the winery, and it was much better. The 2022 vintage was not as good as the 2021, so there's that.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.

100% Merlot grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

Year in, year out, this is my fav Chianti Classico. To me it captures all what I look for in a good every day Sangiovese - freshness, a bit of tannic edge, juicy flow, a savory sweetness to the fruit. And food friendliness!
Enticing nose with red cherries, a bit of wet undergrowth & turned earth, a bit of tomato leaf, a flowery whiff. Joyful!
Medium bodied on the palate with great energy & flow. The tannins present, a touch rustic, but in a nice way, the acidity juicy & vibrant. Nice depth and long finish.
So drinkable but also has some seriousness to it.
