L'esprit De Margaux

Château Brane-Cantenac

Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

#AgedWineTuesday

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium plus intensity.

Pretty nose with red and black fruits, wood, earth, tobacco, black coffee and spices.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice, peppercorn, forest floor, earth, black tea, vegetables and herbs.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 16 year old from Margaux, is drinking very nicely now. Showing nice balance and elegance. Soft and very dry.

Good right out of the bottle, and gets much earthier as it opens up, with lots of earth and forest floor notes. Really enjoyed the nose.

The 2008 vintage was not a good one, and although it's still very tasty, I don't see it getting any better from this point.

I've had a few vintages of this Second Growth Bordeaux, and I found it to be all over the place. The 2016 was my favorite so far.

Wine Advocate 92 points. Wine Spectator 87 Points.

Paired very nicely with a burger and fries.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

13% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$130.

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Nice balanced tannins, didn't pull too much at the tongue. Felt almost silky and luxurious. Had a touch of that quality I love that I think might be complexity/aging. Not a 10/10 wine but a very good wine I definitely enjoyed. Opened up nicely into more of that luxurious, complex quality. Note the age (2014). — 7 days ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Medium Ruby with quite wide garnet rim. More truffle , tobacco , violet , cassis and earthy notes. Takes a bit of time to get going and certainly shows a bit more age than the 2009. On the palate, more austere with dryer tannin than the 2009 , but very well balanced and classic in style . Cassis, blackcurrant , tobacco graphite notes . Some dry spices too . Quite fresh acidity , and slightly gritty tannin. Long , saline, graphite tinged finish. This is showing some development , but will improve further over the next 5 possibly 10 years and hold well a further 5-10 — 11 days ago

Margaux Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

2012 vintage. Dark red with little evolution. Black fruits in a tight, but velvety tannic structure. Impressive depth for the vintage. Drinking well, but I believe it will still improve with further bottle age. Abv. 13,5%. — 15 days ago

Medium deep ruby. Quite thin ruby , garnet rim . Touches of cedar , sous bois , grafite , touch of cassis , sea spray, a little green perhaps . On the palate quite dry , cassis , sous bois and grafite touches . Balanced alcohol with slightly dry tannin . Slightly short, but balanced enough and in a good place now . Château Rauzan-Gassies

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Delicate and elegant older Margaux. Refined use of oak, fresh currant and some lightly stewed fruits. Dusty but nevertheless a wine with enough roundness. Gifted to me 16 years ago, a treat now. — 3 days ago
