Brother in law brought out some amazing wines for Easter dinner and his son’s birthday. Didn’t catch them all but these two were exceptional. This one got a short decant could have used more opening time but who are we kidding it was amazing with a pop and pour. The depth of flavor right out of the bottle - insane. Amazing nose, great flavors in the palate and a finish that lasted. Clearly WOTN and we should have given it way more time. I gave it as much time in glass as possible. 2013. Dark presence with violet-black from edge to end. Unctious. El Capitan tears with solar flare outcroppings linear paralleling across the cliff face. Lovely mushroom and earth interplay here with blackberry bourgeoning and black olive wisps. Forêt Noir leanings with brittle and toffee behind a curious veil of grill smoke. Palate is met with a rush of intense flavor, warm dark chocolate and raw nib, concentrated black cherry, cedar, blackberries and red currant, ripe blackberry, licorice, tobacco, and a drop of treacle. Wild resonance! Flavor permanences.

1 hour decant(some chunky sediment). A striking deep garnet color with some bricking. On the nose: exquisite notes of dark fruit, herbaceous, cedar lined cigar box, floral, pencil shavings. Taste: silky, brooding, balanced wine with blackberry/dark cherry, loamy soil, graphite, tobacco, licorice and a minerally roasted coffee persistent finish. YUM!! — 15 days ago

On the palate, dark berry , blueberry, cherry, smokey vanilla, and secondary and tertiary notes of oak, espresso, and chocolate. Very special 2000 Red blend from Spring Mountain, Napa served with a special Sunday dinner: Pasta a la Zozzona. Completely different wine in the first 30 minutes of drinking than it was after decanting for 30 minutes. Black Cherry, leather, tobacco. Soft round tannins and a LONG finish. But it’s really interesting, I’ve had wine aged half as long that showed its age 10x more than this wine. I feel like it could have aged even longer. — 6 days ago

Cain Five 2017 spring mt district. Napa. Complex wine. Probably need to open it up. Dry. Tastes expensive, but that might just be that it was held in oak. 2 hrs in. Really nice flavor. Not acidic. Lighter tannins. Fell asleep woke up and had a sip. Even better. Drank some the next day. Even better. Very smooth. Not that jammy cab. The Merlot and franc mellows it out. Similar blend as a home brew where you get a bunch of different varietals and put them together. But it seems to work really nice. 46% cab, 26 Merlot, 21 cab franc, 5 Malbec, 2 petit verdot. Really worth what I got it for. Need to open it up at breakfast for dinner. Just don’t try it with lunch or you won’t have any later. 44$. — 14 days ago
