Mount Cole

Lagier Meredith

Mount Veeder Syrah 2016

On the nose and palate are concentrated notes of crème de cassis, juicy blackberry, plum, purple fig, mulberry, violet, black licorice, anise seed, peppercorn, clove, vanilla, cardamom, leather, and forest floor. The palate is dry with medium (+) acidity, a medium (+) body, high alcohol (14.5% ABV), and velveteen tannins with a persistent finish.

Reed Vineyard Pinot Noir 2003

Maybe a bit too old but nevertheless a delicious experience - caramelised notes, dried cherry, figs, spices and vanilla. Smooth and full bodied albeit lacking some acidity. Finish filled with dried mushrooms and chicken stock — a month ago

Mount Langi Ghiran

Langi Shiraz 2009

Meaty aromatics with spice, liquorice and a little pepper. An excellent medium plus bodied Shiraz which has always been one of my favourite Australian Reds. Medium plus intensity of flavour. Oak has been totally integrated. The next day comparing with a Te Mata Bullnose Shiraz from Hawkes Bay NZ. This is definitely more full bodied and less peppery than the Bullnose. Still an inner core of strength to the Langi which will see it last for another 5 + years. It’s fair to say the style of the Langi has changed over the past 20 years but it remains an Icon. — a month ago

I agree that this is also an Aussie icon. I recall in the days past that this was more of a softer, less punchy Shiraz. No idea how it presents now. It is available in the U.S., but it’s kinda steeply priced these days.

@Ron R It’s crazy how the price has increased in the past 4 or 5 years Ron. Now around $200AUD a bottle.

Cliff Edge Shiraz 2020

Big step up from the Heathcote 2020 Shiraz, tight, somewhat structured, and needs some time, but very nice depth of flavors, and nice length, very good!! — 2 months ago

Polish Hill Clare Valley Riesling 2013

Mid yellow in colour. Musky notes with a little talc - white and yellow flowers. On the palate lovely ripe peach flavours. Incredible flavour intensity. Irresistible. Low acid. Definitely one of Australia’s best dry Rieslings. No notes of TDN. Have the last one in a year or two. See previous Delectable note 6 years ago in June 2018 when it was carrying more citric acid. — 2 months ago

@Bob McDonald, yes it is. Gaia isn’t tho. It’s a real shame because there’s been a pull-back on Aussie wines in the U.S. Over 20 years ago, the market was flooded with Aussie wines, many sub par. Now Aussie wines occupy a small space on the shelves over here.
