Paul Launois

Launois Père et Fils

Veuve Clémence Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Another beautiful champagne from the Launois family. A pale old gold color with nice perlage and intensity. Freshly baked bread and green apple aromas for days. Melons and white peaches with herbs for good measure. There’s an innate sense of lemon zest in the air that’s just magnificent.

Pure Grand Cru Chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger. Four years of aging on lees gives this a resplendent and stately nature. Nice acidity and a superb mouthfeel, especially on the second day. Apples and chalk on the palate alongside vibrant citrus fruits. I struggle to think of a better value in Champagne than this. Stock up.

Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Pretty nose with wild flowers, red and black fruits, light oak, tobacco leaf, dark coffee, spices, dark chocolates, barnyard, light earth, herbs, licorice and black pepper.

Full-bodied and smooth with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, spices, light oak, licorice, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco, tar, vegetables, bitter herbs and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 9 year old Syrah from Northern Rhône is drinking very nicely now. Rich and fruit forward.

Extracted and in your face kind of wine. A little stinky, in a good way, as expected. Complex, elegant and smooth.

Peaking now and will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. I had the 2016 not too long ago, and liked it better.

Good by itself and better with food.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$50.

Cuvée La Côte Ronde Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2020

Tasted the young 2020 and loved it. Full body but nice fruit forward. Aging only 20% of volume in oak gives wine perfect amount of oakiness. Putting these babies away for several years and will be looking forward to them. Was a family favorite. — a month ago

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Ample black currant aromas overflowing from my glass. Oak. Roses. Spices. Black berry. Still fresh, but rounded. Balanced sweetness and spiciness. 2 hours, tropical fruits? Melted tannic, so smooth. With bitterness is also impacted. Vanilla, oak. Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Paul Hobbs Wines 18 @14960, Toscan, 240914 — 16 days ago

Lovely gold color. Nose has lemongrass, honey, straw, and butter. Wine is slightly past prime. Palate contains butter, stone fruit, and camomile. Medium plus depth and long finish. Not as expressive as previous bottles. — 14 days ago

Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay 2022

Very light and pale. Granny Smith and a little spice on the nose. Medium acidity. Not super fruity. No oak apparently. Never had a white Beaujolais before. Good value for about $20. — a day ago
