From Date night at J. Gilberts. Some but not a lot of tannins, raspberry and other fruits, a good wine with steak and chocolate. — 3 months ago
Decanted for three hours and immediately described as “universally appealing”, this is not only the WOTN but my WOTY. Utterly perfect, except perhaps enjoyed ever-so-slightly too soon. Remarkable winemaking. Concentrated flavour profile of cherry, strawberry, chocolate, violets, and very minimal earthy tones. Still on the upswing and not fully mature, despite the pleasure it was. Medium plus body, medium acidity. Extremely long. Possibly the best wine I’ve tasted to date. Can’t wait to try a “good” year. — 5 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2021 “Date Night…” Cabernet Sauvignon pours a deep ruby purple with an impenetrable core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with tart and ripe notes of black fruit: blackberries, black plum, black currants, purple flowers, some tobacco, vanilla and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. While this is meant to be their workhorse wine, it’s got plenty of stuffing for aging and I think this vintage would appreciate some cellar time. Already tasty though. Drink now through 2036. — 3 months ago
Two beers with two years past due date, this is when it starts to express its complexity. Love this! — 3 years ago
1989 Vega Sicilia Unico. Date night at Il P. Decanted, strained through cheesecloth, and drank about an hour later. Awesome. Classic Unico flavors. Love this wine. — 5 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2023 “Date Night…” Sauvignon Blanc is made more in the Sancerre style than the Bordeaux Blanc style. It’s bursting with grapefruit and verbena; herbal and grassy. There is some lovely acid and minerals too. This is a very strong example of this style in a New World way. Drink now. — 3 months ago

A 5th Growth from the left bank of Bordeaux that never disappoints. Multi-layered, enticing aromas of red fruit, leathery and dried leaf, raising and date fruits, makes this earthy wine a nice option. Had the 2013 vintage and still delivers. Solid tannins, dry and not so aggressive on the mid-range of the palate. Silky finish. — 18 hours ago
