Saint Louis

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Still holding back after 3 hrs in the decanter. The wine’s concentration and tannic structure promise a wonderful future. At the age of 20, this still feels primary and even hibernating… 😳
I’ll let my remaining bottles sleep for 3-5 years.

Domaine Dujac

Morey Saint Denis Pinot Noir 2024

A little too plummy for me, orange zest. Plenty of whole cluster notes. Unwound and disjointed at this point of its evolution. My least favorite of the 24‘ line up. 175$. — a month ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Intoxicating nose. Tres Bordeaux, complex, high bore, intriguing. On the palate, this is youthful, red fruited, tart and fresh.
Drinking lovely at the moment. Still has some future.

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

L'Hermitage Syrah 1988

Pains me to say this bottle was on its way out. Very dry cork and low fill. Not sure about storage. Completely tertiary with dried florals and meaty bacon and salami tones. Silky palate, but just missing a step. Came back to the glass thinking “maybe now, maybe this time,” and it wasn’t to be. Birth year. — 11 days ago

Château Beychevelle

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

2000 vintage. This is one of the better BDX 2000's I've had in the last decade. Opened not decanted. Tasted 1 hour and 4 hours after opening. Feminine body, masculine flavors. Plenty of stuffing and instructive markers laid down along the palate pathway. With apologies to Robert Zimmerman, you ain't going nowhere. 10.2.26. — a month ago

Very nice

Château Meyney

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Initially, this was a bit closed with fruit notes dominating, but after an hour long decant it opened up nicely. The nose has mostly cassis and herbal flavors, and on the palate, cassis, tobacco, bay leaf, dried sage, dark chocolate, and graphite notes come through nicely. Has good acidity, and tannins are well integrated. Super tasty and paired well with rosemary and thyme roasted rack of lamb with potatoes and eggplant. — 14 days ago

@Doug Powers this was my first. Really enjoyed it and glad I had it at a good spot in its drinking window. I’ve had some bad luck with young bordeauxs that were disappointing.

This is such a great wine. Quiet. Understated. Bookish. Have been looking for another case or two for the resto but just not in the gray market currently. Like a shark always moving and looking for it, the 1996 Pichon-Lalande and 2018 Larcis Ducasse.
