Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

We had the 2006 Vintage on 7/27-28/24. A nice Old World, medium to full bodied wine with a long finish. Scents and a palate of blackberry, black cherry, plum, graphite and camphor. The tannins were fine and smoothed out with aeration. A very good wine. — 2 months ago

Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

Lovely peach color with aromas of citrus, pear, brioche, and bruised apple. Smooth and nice body. Fine bubbles! — 3 months ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2018

Lived up to their reputation. Tannins were prominent but fine and integrated and not overbearing due to the fruit intensity. Balanced and long once it breathed for 1+ hr — 4 months ago

Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

+1 hour decant(some fine/chunky sediment). A splendid crimson red color. On the nose: wonderful bouquet with plum, stewed meat, cassis, sweet tobacco, funky earth, leather. Taste: silky, finessed, balanced wine with red berries/plum, coffee grounds, cedar, tobacco, and a nice peppery pencil lead long finish. YUM! Pure class in a glass. — 18 days ago

Pol Roger

Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne 2013

This wine is STUNNING.

Its nose offers notes of pear and apple tart with toasted almond, nougat, marzipan, brioche, lemon curd, raspberry coulis, pie crust, dried white rose, chalk, oyster shell …

On the palate this wine is creamy with vibrant acidity adding lift and balance; it has a fine-beaded and persistent mousse and a long, elegant finish. Flavors are consistent with the nose.

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Delectable Wine
9.7

The 2016 Montrose is a supremely gifted Saint-Estèphe. Very harmonious and precise on the nose, faint hints of mocha and freshly rolled tobacco are behind those floral scents, black rather than red fruit. The palate has very fine tannins, extraordinarily harmonious with a nigh-perfect line of acidity. There is a subtle crescendo that leaves you utterly smitten by its charms, a touch of graphite on the finish. I just have the feeling that this might close up for a while. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the Icons of Bordeaux dinner at Legacy Records in New York. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2024)

Louis Roederer

Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend 2015

Light straw , very young looking . Constant very fine perlage . Quite closed at first then crushed rocks , lemon peel , ginger , white flowers , brioche . On the palate good richness and intensity , lemon , orange rind , buttered bread , touch of roast nuts . Very fine mineral tinged , intense finish . This needs time and will improve over the next 10 years or so and last well a further 5-10 . A good follow up to the 2014 , this shows more backward and will take even longer to reach its peak. Perhaps a little less detailed and precise than the very mineral 2014 but that might just be a question of needing more time in bottle. — a month ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

It’s was fine. But underwhelming. Perhaps it was not quite ready to open. Decanted and long aeration helped but it’s still lacked the oomph I expect from a Latour. Fruit was mature but less focused than normal. Beautiful color though. — 3 months ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2004 Léoville Las Cases has a noticeable mintiness on the nose that actually complements the red fruit, though it deviates away from what you might call Saint-Julien typicité. After ten minutes, it coheres with ash and black tea aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded texture on the entry. The 2004 shows fine acidity and is lightly spiced with cracked black pepper towards the finish. A little conservative, but it acquits itself well considering the vintage.
