Ad Vivum Sleeping Lady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Inky in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, light earth and black pepper.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black currants, blackberries, cedar, cola, vanilla, spices, espresso, light herbs, chocolates and peppercorn

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This 6 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now, and very approachable right out of the bottle.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet is powerful and spicy. Fruit forward and elegant. Easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine.

Feels young, but already delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the 10 years and beyond.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (70% new) French oak barrels for 20 months.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Glenelly Estate

Lady May Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot 2017

Dark and brooding, the flagship 2017 Lady May from Glenelly is effusive from the first pour, with aromas of black cherry, purple herbs, baking spice and chocolate. The palate is distinctly savoury, with a spicy quality that represents quite a contrast from prior vintages. This is an altogether quite serious offering and perhaps lacks the glossy suave character of, say, the 2015, which I prefer at this stage. But this should be absolutely fantastic in around 5-10 years’ time and I can’t wait to try it again. — 6 months ago

Sleeping Lady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Pretty nose of blueberries, blackberries, plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, light earth, herbs, spices, chocolates and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, black tea, peppercorn and espresso.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Soft, rich and elegant. Fruit forward, easy drinking and not in your face kind of wine.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours of airtime, which I didn't have this time.

This 9 year old will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired nicely with grilled Lamb chops.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (70% new) French oak barrels for 20 months. A small production of 7,200 bottles.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

OLG Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir from Our Lady of Guadalupe Vineyard in Santa Ynez delivers a lively mix of dried violets, plum, and boysenberry, complemented by the jammy tang of underripe raspberries. Subtle hints of smoky tobacco and cured meat add a savory edge, while bright notes of raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry keep it fresh and vibrant. The finish is clean and slightly earthy, striking a balance between elegance and approachability. It’s a distinctive Pinot that speaks to the character of its vineyard with clarity and charm. — 3 months ago

Mount Peak Winery

Rattlesnake Zinfandel 2021

A tribute to the crest called Rattlesnake Hill, highest point of Monte Rosso Vineyard, famous for rattlesnakes living among the vines, seeking sunshine by day and coiling around the vines at night. Dark Ruby with aromas of berry fruits, tangy herb, pepper and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and ripe cherry with black pepper spice, vanilla and earthy sweet herbs. Soft chewy tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, spice and earthy oak. Nice! — 8 months ago

Yves Cuilleron a Chavanay

La Petite Côte Condrieu Viognier 2017

Third and final time trying the 2017 Condrieu ‘La Petite Côte’ from Yves Cuilleron, a wine I first tried in 2020 and described then as ‘liquid sunshine’. At seven/eight years of age, it might not be quite as stunning as it was on that first occasion, but it’s still a gorgeous, joyful wine full of Amalfi lemon, white flowers and nectarine, with an oily, waxy texture and lovely bitterness on the finish. Definitely better young, but holding up nicely, and I’d buy this again. — 2 months ago

Chevey Presqu'ile Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay 2023

Very austere. Lemongrass, lemons, peach, stones, a hint of underlying bread, but a huge amount of acidity. Very good with fish. — 8 months ago
