Marcel Juge

Cornas Syrah 2012

Part of the same generation as Verset, Gentaz and Trollat, Juge is old school Syrah at its finest. These rare bottles can be highly variable but this was the most perfect showing I’ve had from Juge. It’s everything you want from Syrah, vibrantly energetic, brimming with elegance and a wild complexity with earth, spice, wild berries and smoky minerals. Exceptionally balanced and detailed, this is perfect Northern Rhône. — 14 days ago

Julienas Gamay 2016

This was really lovely. Soft, but the fruit is still fresh and vibrant. A very special wine—happy it showed well. — a month ago

Morgon Gamay 2018

Always lovely and fun to try with a bit more age. Still lots of flowers and cherry but with a notably darker edge now. Dangerously drinkable while still being very interesting. Good pairing with a Christmas Eve ham from hometown bbq. — 2 months ago

Château Gloria Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

Blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 14% Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new French oak, deep Ruby red with aromas of red and black fruits with oaky spice. On the palate flavors of black raspberry, currants and black cherry with licorice, toasty oak and tobacco. Fine lush tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and earthy tobacco spice. Drinking well now and will continue to develop! — 18 days ago

Trarbacher Huhnerberg Spätlese* trocken Mosel Riesling 2020

Nose: potent. That th tropicality. Piercing fresh minerals.

Palate: slatey. Hints of tropical fruit. A bit bitter on open. Needs an hour to open up and integrate. This may be a masterpiece with time.

Still needs another year.

You’re way way off on this one.

Nickel & Nickel

Martin Stelling Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Wine is incredibly dark and brooding. Very dense and heavy taste and texture right out of the bottle.

Drank over about 3 hours. Oxygen was this wines friend and the wine opened up quite a bit to reveal more bright and red fruit to complement the black fruit and density which also gave way as it breathed.

Not a blockbuster from a complexity perspective and lacked the punch of something special. But a solid oakville cab nonetheless and not too oaky.

This seems more integrated than the Hyland Vineyard, same vintage. Anyone have insight? — 2 months ago
