Patrick Of Coonawarra

Laurel Glen Vineyard

Sonoma Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1986

Sweet dried redfruits and oak aromas, soft tannins, sweet fruit on palate as well, very fine acidity and depth, seems close to fully mature, but should last 3-5 years at least, kudos to Patrick Campbell, who made a lot of outstanding LG Cabernets back in the 1980s and 1990s, excellent Sonoma Mountain Cabernet!! — 5 days ago

So bloody jealous. Have been looking for the Laurel Glen cabs from 1985-1994 for ages without success. Formative for my nascent palate in the early 90's. Can't score a bottle to save my life. F.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate

Black Label Coonawarra Shiraz 2016

Mid Ruby. Notes of mulberry, lavender, cherry and a little pepper. Medium bodied spicy palate showing cool climate characters. Drinking well at 8 years with a long future. The last one I had was in 2018. This is more the midweek quaffer Wynns Shiraz, not like their premium Shiraz, “The Michael “. Interestingly Shiraz was initially the predominant red varietal in Coonawarra before Cabernet Sauvignon took that mantle. — 9 months ago

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

A lovely full wine. Chocolate rounded flavours. Just the tiniest hint of powder. Blueberry sort of touches. Goes really well with Chocolate! — 4 years ago

Joyous age and drinking wonderfully - the best of the Jasmin 2006s I bought from Yapp so many moons ago — 2 months ago

Bowen Estate

Estate Grown Coonawarra Shiraz 2018

Another great value red from Coonawarra - this from Bowen Estate. I paid $27.50 at the cellar door in 2021. Their excellent Cabernet Sauvignon was the same price. In earlier days this Cuvée showed cooler climate characteristics of white pepper - not evident in this bottle. This shows more spice, red berries and black olives. Just a medium weight palate and obviously great QPR. Interestingly in the early days of Coonawarra, Shiraz was more planted than Cabernet Sauvignon - it’s the reverse these days. I had another bottle 23 weeks later on 6th May 2025 with consistent notes. An excellent wine for $75 but at $27.50 simply outstanding. Should be a regular purchase. The Cabernet Sauvignon at the same price is just as good. — 7 months ago

"La Cueille" Bugey-Cerdon Sparkling Gamay Poulsard

One of the darkest/deepest sparkling roses I've had. Nice fruit notes, good balance of different red & dark fruit and acidity. — 2 years ago

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

3/6.5/9.5 = 19 out of 100 say 94.5
Great vintage 2010 - very strong., great mouthfeel, long linger. Mint with tobacco, strong acid structure and still plenty of tannins. Will go at least 3-5 years more.

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

A deep Ruby red - no hint of bricking. Coonawarra mint noticeable on the nose. Possibly drinking this a little young at 16 years of age - at least a 20 year old wine. From a warmer year showing cassis, blackcurrant, milk chocolate and a little bay leaf. Fine grained persistent tannins. Hand pruned and picked, natural yeast fermentation, matured in French oak. A gift to us from the owner and winemaker, Sue Bell. Drinking well, thanks Sue. I hope you don’t think we drank it too early. — 8 months ago
