Marchesi di Barolo

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

WOW!!! Beautiful ruby color with a bit of garnet around the rim. Beautiful aromas of black fruit, rose petals, vanilla and spices. Black cherry, plum, pepper spice fill the pallet. Touch of eucalyptus on the finish. Elegant and refined. Tannins are there but firmly in check. Outstanding! Thank you so much Kasey and Petey! — 3 years ago

Home Field Fort Ross Seaview Pinot Noir 2018

Two Miles from the Pacific Ocean with an elevation of 1500 feet. This is one of the most elegant wines of the three different sites. Rose petals, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry. — 3 years ago

Cantina Bartolo Mascarello

Barolo Nebbiolo

Exudes Elegance! Slow oxed for six hours the day before and then recorded and returned to the cellar. Amazing nose of rose petals, some red candy, tinged with olives the wine simply exudes elegance! With a tremendous balance and long finish perhaps the best of Cantineau Mascarello that I have had! Wish I had some more! — 4 years ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2018

Rose petals, cherry, wet moss, wild berries, subtle herbs (tarragon?), flirty hint of grape, bubblegum. And that signature wild, almost over the line E&M VA. Fine tannins, very pretty. Substantially more va in one of two bottles opened. — 2 years ago

Great wine yet on the edge. And once the VA blows off it is all good. The VA is actually Ethyl-acetate which humans can small in extrem small amounts. The whole VA acronym is a misnomer.

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Rich and warm dark chocolate and raisin nose foreshadows coming depth. Browning grasses, hazelnuts and baked pecans, cinnamon-blueberry tort, black cherry and black currant, wet rose petals, violet-cocoa, and jasmine branch. Tight and young entry still satisfies with spruce buds, pronounced tea leaf, sharp oak tones, cinnamon, red cherry, underripe red currant, pointy graphite; myrrh. Don’t drink ‘em if you got ‘em.

Massolino

Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

9.1

No cru bottling in 2018, so this entry gets all the premium juice.
Beautiful nose of strawberry, sour cherry, raspberry, licorice, steeped tea, and rose petals. Lean medium body yet juicy. Tannins are still quite tight.
Good showing from a so-so vintage.

Château Margaux

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Praleum w SL. Smoky and broody. Preferred the 82 Poggio Antico Brunello to this.

This was a great bottle: fragrant and beautifully defined on the nose that on this occasion offered a more conspicuous graphite scent, which lent it a Pauillac-like personality. Allowing the wine to open and aerate, the traits one associates with the property emerge—wilted violets and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and mineral-laden, that suggestion of candied orange peel on the entry segueing into layers of pure red and black fruit. There is always something effortless about this Chateau Margaux and the pixelation on the finish is up there with the very best. Is it the best 1982 First Growth? No, it's not quite up there with 1982 Latour or Mouton-Rothschild, however, it is a sublime evocation of the vineyard and it will continue to give pleasure for a couple of decades yet.
