Château Musar

Hochar Père & Fils Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2020

A very pretty color of dark ruby with a very wide reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of red and black fruits, light cedar, tobacco leaf, earth, licorice, spices, herbs, peppercorn, eucalyptus and dark chocolates.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cherries, currants, light wood, coffee, spices, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, pencil lead, licorice and black tea.

Long tangy finish with fine grained tannins and raspberries.

This is a delicious Cinsault based blend from Lebanon. What a great surprise. Elegant and spicy. Complex, smooth and well balanced.

This Single Vineyard feels much older than it actually is. Feels like a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

This 4 year old is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to drink nicely over the next 5 to 7 years.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, so be patient. Easy drinking and very pleasant, once it opens up.

A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with game meats or lamb dishes.

A blend of 50% Cinsault, 40% Grenache and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in French Oak barrels for 6 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Cuvée Impériale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

First post in a very long time after a series of personal and professional setbacks that could have ended badly. Had this beautiful GSM last night - first wine drinking in a while. It was lively with fruit, medium acidity and a long, fine finish. Hi everyone! — 2 months ago

Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Served with Fisherman’s Pasta - sablefish, mussels, saffron gnocchetti pasta, fennel, fresh baguette toast. One whiff of the nose and this couldn’t be anything other than GC white burgundy. Powerful notes of caramel popcorn, tropical fruit, marshmallows, and nuts. Fabulous acid that one might find more typical in Chablis. This was almost a shock to the system but let’s be honest, I don’t typically get to drink Montrachet…but I could get used to it. This almost seemed young. — 13 days ago

Launois Père et Fils

Veuve Clémence Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Another beautiful champagne from the Launois family. A pale old gold color with nice perlage and intensity. Freshly baked bread and green apple aromas for days. Melons and white peaches with herbs for good measure. There’s an innate sense of lemon zest in the air that’s just magnificent.

Pure Grand Cru Chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger. Four years of aging on lees gives this a resplendent and stately nature. Nice acidity and a superb mouthfeel, especially on the second day. Apples and chalk on the palate alongside vibrant citrus fruits. I struggle to think of a better value in Champagne than this. Stock up.

Birthday magnum! What a beautiful, silky smooth, darkly fruity punch in the mouth. A little smoky, a little tart, but mostly just silky smooth. — a month ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 1996

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark golden in color with a brownish hue.

Light nose and very dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing lemons, apples, spices, light over ripen citrus fruits, earth, light wood, herbs, light vegetables and white pepper.

Short finish with limes and bitter herbs.

This 28 year old is a little past its prime, but still drinkable and interesting.

I had higher expectations, but at this age, it really depends on the individual bottle. That said, I still enjoyed it.

Needed 30 minutes to open up properly.

Good by itself as a sipping wine.

100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Domaine de Beaurenard (Paul Coulon et Fils)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1995

Opened about 8 hours prior to service and Audouze’d. The 1995 pours a pale garnet with a transparent core and a watery rim. There significant variation of the rim too. The viscosity is medium and there is no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing (still!) with notes of bright red cherries, anise, garrigue, cedar forest, leather, dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The body is quite light and thin…but healthy. The finish is medium. Very pretty; very Burgundian. This bottle belies its age. Drink now and through 2030. — 5 months ago
