Tenuta I Fauri

Bodegas Faustino

Gran Reserva Faustino I Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2012

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong nose with blue and red fruits.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate and easy drinking.

Showing raspberries, blueberries, black plums, cooked cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, tobacco, herbs, light earth, dried tomatoes, chocolates and black pepper.

Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Gran Reserva from Rioja is always a good choice. Showing nice complexity with a smooth mouthfeel.

Rich and elegant with good balance.

Drinks very young right now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Needs an hour to open up, but good right out of the bottle too.

I've had many different vintages of this wine, and it always delivers. My favorite so far was the 2004.

14% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$30.

Nice. 2004 was excellent in Rioja.

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1983

A legendary bottle that lived up to its hype. It drank beautifully and I believe can be enjoyed for many years to come. — 15 days ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2020

I felt guilty drinking such a young wine, but it was exceptional. Beautifully balanced and fresh right out of the bottle (no time to decant since we were in a restaurant). Tasted a lot of raspberries and blackberries. — 2 months ago

Bodegas Roda

Reserva Roda I Rioja Red Blend 2018

Excellent!!! Deep Ruby with plum, black currant, stewed cherries, cedar, spices, and tobacco. Smooth with a great finish. Terrific with our Chimichurri Flank steak. Visited the winery in May 2023 and it was a fantastic tasting and knew I had to take a few bottles home. — 9 days ago

I have only had the Napa valley version before. The Napa seems more dense and concentrated but my only comparison was a 2007 that is beautiful. — 13 days ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

SPEC TA CU LAR! Here you feel the absolute majesty of a wine who can be promoted to at least 2nd growth. Cedar, camphor, eucalyptus, butterscotch/4 spices, yellow curry. I’ve always loved ‘00 in Pauillac has I think it’s the last great of the classic style. Definitely this bottling is a keeper. — 20 days ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

This should cellar longer. Maybe another 5 yrs before I try again. Decanted over 3 hrs. Tight in first hour. It needs a lot air now. Many layers and complex fruit. It lingers. Meaty after taste. Dark fruit. Earthy. I liked it very much and look forward to the next one. — 2 months ago

We recently had this by the glass at Peaks, NYC. We enjoyed it so much that we bought a few bottles. While I consider this to be a “construction site,” I respect what the Wagner’s have accomplished. Not gonna bother with tasting notes as this is just a cherry compote fruit bomb. Tasted using a coravin as a few glasses represents a meal on its own. — 21 hours ago

Like Ron, I respect what Chuck and his family have accomplished over their many years. The style of this wine changed in 2012. Chuck made a business decision to pick at higher brix’s thus making a sweeter wine. It paid off for him in higher more consistent Parker scores and likely better sales. I am one who preferred this wine pre 2012 and have made the pitch to a couple of their staff to yeah make this style of new Caymus but also make Caymus Classic. So far, no success. 🤷‍♂️

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2012

Usually not a huge fan of Italian wines, but yeah, have been buying some Sassicaia over the years. As I put away some wines I stumble across this 2012 that should be ready to drink, so I bring it upstairs to decant it. Great nose and typical flavor profiles emerge. Nice acidity and a some background menthol flavors that remind me of some great Chateau Musar vintages. This is a vibrant wine with tannins still strong, but integrated; better on day 2.
Not one of my favorite wines, no surprise, but a solid well-made enjoyable Bordeaux blend

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

I am biased for Rioja but this is a very good demonstration of why. Great balance ripe reserved fruit in harmony with some slight puckering length. Better in 10 years. Totally fine now. — 2 months ago
