Color me shocked. Up there with one of the more surprising bottles of the year (alongside an old Carlisle Cardiac Syrah). Had very little hope, but was completely and pleasantly surprised.
Cork split in two coming out. Trusty Durand saved the day. First small pour was not encouraging…lots of funk. After leaving alone for 30mins, the faded ruby with tinge of black in the glass had aromatics of sous bois, black tea, and dirty red and black berries. On the palate, this was elegant showing more herbal/earthy notes, dark berry fruit in the background, sweet pipe tobacco and a still-tart finish with both acidity and tannin. I have to admit that if someone said this was older burgundy, I could see it in the realm of possibilities. No sappy, rich, cola type notes here. Open and enjoy! — 6 months ago
First Summa Vineyard from my allocation. It is quite nice. Still needs a few years.
The body feels thicker than other Pinots I’ve had. Plum pudding, dry cranberries, poached strawberries, blackberries, black raspberries, highlights of pomegranate & blueberries, mix berry cola, licorice nibs, dry herbs, moist volcanic clay, limestone marl, dry twig, dry crushed rocks, some grilled meats, dry tobacco, used leather, barrel shavings, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon & vanillin, fresh & withering, dark, red, flowers, excellent round acidity and a well balanced, tensioned, structured with a well polished finish that lasts a minute. — a year ago
Martinelli family has been farming in Sonoma County since 1860. Deep Ruby color with aromas of red berry fruit and sweet spices. On the palate ripe cherry and blueberry flavors, with some dried fruit notes, oak, cinnamon spice and cola tones. Fine mouth coating tannins with balanced acidity carry this rich wine to a long finish. Good now will age a bit! — a year ago
Just drinking great and loaded with complex and integrated fruits, cola and other. Nice long finish — 6 months ago
We had the 2019 Vintage on 8/4-5/24. A fantastic RRV PN. Black cherry, black raspberry, Cinnamon, baking spice and cola. Medium bodied with a wonderful mouth feel. Smoothed out tannins with a nice finish. Would definitely buy more. I like this more than their single vineyard offerings — 9 months ago
Fantastic blend. Not overbearing, not too dry. — 2 years ago
Sipping Fine Wine
Deep Ruby color with aromas of black fruits, cedar and baking spice, aged in 40% new French oak. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry and raspberry with cola and sweet cinnamon spice notes. Full-bodied, fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and an earthy mineral character. Nice! — a month ago
